Hi all,

We staged a refight of a naval classic at the Devon Wargames Group meeting yesterday.

The Shannon v Chesapeake engagement had its 200th anniversary this June and our tabletop encounter proved to be a hard fought affair.

Hi Ben, thank you. We used the Eight Bells app

Ben Walton15 Sep 2013 1:04 p.m. PST

I've seen that app it looks like a good way to manage paper work

carojon15 Sep 2013 1:09 p.m. PST

Yes I used it earlier in the year to run a multi ship game for our Battle of Sadras game.

Nice photos Carojon. What scale is this? It looks to be 1:1200. If so, where did you find a model of the Chesapeake? Kiss Me Hardy is my game of choice too.

Vol

Vol, I'm betting they are Langton 1/1200…I'm going by the stern galleries and the sails…too late in the evening to dig out my boxes and see what the Chesapeake hull is…good question. Beautiful models!

Hi Rob.
I was pretty sure Rod doesn't make a Chesapeake. I was wondering if it might be the Constitution, but they were not sister ships and looked quite different. This one does appear to be different. If you figure it out please let us know.

By the way, I started the Langton Dutch 68 you sent me before leaving home for this work hitch. I'll send you pictures when I'm done.

Vol

The scale is 1/1200th, the models are from Rod Langton. I painted these quite a few years ago, but I think I used a British frigate model to model the smaller American frigates.

I also have KMH and use the cards to generate the advantage in the Eight Bells app.The nice thing about the app is as Ben pointed out, there is no paperwork

Langton makes the USS Congress-38, that could be used for Chesapeake.

True, you could use the Congress. Vol, this is driving me nuts! I looked through all the British hulls; none match up with the side view and stern view on the Devon guys' site…but I'm out of one model…a 32-gun frigate. That's probably the one..haha! I also checked the French and US hulls; it's not one of them.

Carojon…beautiful ships!

Volunteer Fezian16 Sep 2013 8:50 p.m. PST

Carojon, Rob is right they are beatiful models. They almost look like the same ships?

Rob, the Congress probably would work best. The 32 you are missing wouldn't be the Essex would it? I have that one and it definitly is not Carojon's Chesapeake. I am amazed that this famed ship is not made by someone.

Regards,
Vol
