Found this post on another forum in response to a new KS out that uses the iPad (Golem Arcana)

a quarter of all the tabletop games on kickstarter now have some stupid feature where they are trying to marry ipads with miniatures.

the other three quarters have some variation on cthulhu or zombies, and it's always unoriginal.

Now besides the fact such a statement is not 100% true, for example historical miniatures tend to not fall into any of those categories, is there a growing trend in KS where there are primarily things that are either unoriginal OR want to become a video game? (actually I'm surprised both havent happened at the same time yet!)

Clearly someone who doesn't see much on KS.

I barely see anything on KS (mostly what gets posted here) and there's plenty out there in the miniatures space that goes beyond half baked/pointless attempts at tablet integration and Cthulhu/Zombies.

Yes, there's a lot out there for Cthulhu and Zombies. That's probably as much of an indicator of popularity + the general lack of intellectual property restrictions in the genres. You can't just pop up and start making Star Wars merchandise on a whim.

I guess I just don't see it. Sounds like a statement from someone who is either joking or doesn't look at kickstarter too much.

I have not noticed computer assisted miniatures games, unless you count a PDF rulebook.

I just went through the kickstarters that I backed and the only one with Cthulhu and Zombies in it is the Reaper Bones Kickstarter and I didn't buy the Cthulhu add on. None of them miniatures that weren't specific miniature kickstarters and none of them involved Ipads. I guess I had amazing luck avoiding all of that in my 24 kickstarters.

It's just a BS statement, is all. Couldn't be less true if the guy tried to untruthfulize it! 8)=

I get the joke. There are plenty of "[Decent Game Concept] + Zombies or Cthulhu" Kickstarters out there, and at least one of them failed spectacularly in recent months, so it's a topical joke.

What Kickstarter failed?

richarDISNEY12 Sep 2013 4:41 p.m. PST

Well, cthulhu and zombies seem to dominate a lot of gaming related KS-ers…

The statement sounds uninformed rubbish. However, the three quarters of Cthulhu or Zombie may well be technically true.

After all, variations of the zombie theme are all the rage for (admittedly unoriginal) sci-fi (cf. Sedition Wars, Zombiecide) and many fantasy KS feature at least one zombie or cthulhuoid monster because they're fantasy staples. Heck, even Bombshell Babes had one with Thulle.

Mine haven't features zombies or Chuthulu. Wait … there was that deep one head last year :)
