Clearly there is no one rule set that dominates amongst English Civil War players. With 37 "first choices" so far, 18 different rule sets have been named. Three have 4 votes each; two have three votes each; 6 more were the first choice with two votes; and 7 more rule sets got a single first choice vote. So hopefully we have a pleasantly embarrassing plethora of great rule sets for clearly none of them dominates the field. Here are the results so far: 4 VOTES each (3): Forlorn Hope Victory Without Quarter WarHammer ECW 3 VOTES each (2):
DBR Pike & Shotte 2 VOTES each (6):
Advanced Armati Charge Yr Pikes Gush's Renaissance rules Impetus Baroque Piquet Anchor of Faith Polemos ECW 1 VOTE each (7):

Renaissance Warfare delivers a good game, and is well supported by its authors. |

Ok, my few tuppence. I vote for
Forlorn Hope IMO, it gives the best "flavor" for the period. Once you pick up on the different checks and what to do, and you use a revised casualty table (all-in-one that I designed), works very well. That said, I recommend to anyone, go to a convention or club or find local players, and try rules sets first before you purchase. Everyone has different view on what they like and why.
