The photo is so clean it almost seems like a modern photo done up to look like it is from 1870.

I agree. It is a very weird composition. On the right you seem to have a Bavarian, an artillery and an infantry officer, all standing around a triangle of rifles. On the left a Uhlan, and a rather strangely uniformed Cuirassier, with some papers on what looks like a packing case. Do we have any information on origin, and where it is supposed to have been taken?
