In non sikh regiments, where a Pagri is worn as part of the Turban, is there any particular signifance of its colour. Would it be the same colour for the entire battalion or at Company level to indicate moslem or Hindu companies

Help appreciated

I thought that the Pagri colour was for the regiment/battalion – but could be wrong! Will see what I can dig out of the library

The pagri or pugri was based upon regimental colours for each unit. Even British units such as the RA could have an appropriate item wrapped around their topees.

Thanks, found a reference backing up both your comments. I think the thing that had me confused was the statement that different classes in a regiment had different styles of tying the pagri which I took to mean the fringe was also different. All I need to do now is find a list of all the facing colours to add some splash of colour to the khaki

Back on this one I am afraid. I found a mention in Frontier Ablaze that the Kullah was red for Mohammedan units in the colour plates description. Is this just a cavalry convention or would have been employed in any unit with a company class system or single class units ?
