While visiting Galena, IL over the weekend I visited the Galena-Jo Daviess Historical Society & Museum. There in a third-floor display case was a flag that was said to be flown over USS Niagara. Photography was allowed so I snapped a couple of shots without flash. I did some research and found this article. Enjoy.

They just had a reenactment of the battle of Lake Erie this past weekend in the same area.the Coast Guard cordoned off a restricted zone for the battle,as there were hundreds of people in private boats attending.I havent seen any footage of it yet,but I'm sure somebody will put it on YouTube at some point.

There is a replica of that flag in Memorial Hall in the rotunda of Bancroft Hall at the US Naval Academy.

I remember as a very depressed plebe (first year) midshipman, I was thinking of quitting. But when I looked up and saw "Don't Give up the Ship", I determined that I was going to stick it out and endure. I'm glad I did.

Tough spot to be in, especially the British PWC operator.

All kidding aside, the commissioning pennants didn't look right to me. Can someone confirm?

I just wish they could have sunk all of the modern water craft so they are not there!
