" free listing and no final fees"- sounds too good to be true! How do you guys raise the cash to run the site? Lots of ads?

Is this like the Bank of Change?

"Need 20 nickels for a dollar? We can do that."
"Four quarters, ten dimes, a toonie and a loonie? All for a five dollar bill, we can do that, too."
"People ask us, 'How do you make money?'. Volume. Volume…"

This is just the latest attempt to do this. It will fail. People are too obsessed with quick sales to use an alternative.

Shipping costs from England will probably rule out a lot of US buyers. I wish him luck.

He's put a lot of work into it. Looks interesting. I assume he has a link to PayPal?

An alternative to eBay would be very welcome, I'll have a look.

It's a very interesting concept but I'd also like to know how it makes money. Shipping from the UK doesn't deter me if they ship it reasonably like Pendraken. (A small, padded envelope.)

Does no-one remember wargamesmarket.com which tried to do precisely the same thing back in the late 2000s? It met with enormous resistance from gamers who prefer to stick with the familiar, even when it's more expensive.

I do wish these guys well, but I hope they've done their homework and will be able to address all the standard concerns surrounding the security of the users' data, as well as being able to offer a long-term venue for such transactions.

P.S. For some reason the Wargames Market link now goes to lacenbighats.blogspot.co.uk – ! have no idea why!

Someone bought the domain cause of its ranking in google for free traffic, then had it re-rout to there own website.

I was one of the voluntary promoters for WM when it was running until they decided to add some fancy update package to the site and ruined the turbo listing tool. From then on there was very little new stuff listed there and sales tanked.

Today I'd rather put that energy into launching my own web store away from ebay.

instead of ebaying them and paying the expensive listing and final fee's

I sell stuff on ebay frequently and very rarely pay listing fees, as every couple of weeks they do a free listing weekend.
As to final value fees, I am generally very happy with the net amount I receive from ebay for what I sell. The number of viewers items get on ebay means you get a much better price than if they were on a lesser viewed site. I'd rather sell something for £40.00 GBP on ebay and pay their fees than sell it for £20.00 GBP and pay no fees.

Here's an example of a recent sale :
auction

I had no idea what these would go for, and would have been happy at £2.00 GBP per figure. They had six different people bidding and went for £21.00 GBP for three figures. Without the number of people using the site that ebay gets it would be likely I'd have sold them for much less.

freewargamesrules03 Sep 2013 4:25 p.m. PST

I too wish them success eBay is way to expensive to sell about 20% of the sale goes to them if the buyer uses PayPal.

Fizzypickles14 Sep 2013 9:19 a.m. PST

I think given the ever increasing charges @ ebay this site is an excellent idea. When the community organises something for the community it deserves all the support it can get.

Mal Sabreur15 Sep 2013 7:10 a.m. PST

I'll be happy to give them a go.
79thPA, I sell loads of stuff on ebay, with a lot going to France, Spain, Germany, Italy, The US including Hawaii, Australia and NZ. I get loads of repeat custom too. I charge as little as possible for postage but insist on recorded delivery until I feel the customer is honest, after which the postage will drop and I always combine postage for multiple buys.
If tne products are good value the postage is worth it and how many painted figures do you see on ebay being shipped from the far East?

When will the site be going live?

Fizzypickles15 Sep 2013 10:40 a.m. PST

They have frequent updates on their FB page. I think he is asking as many questions about what structure ppl want to see before it launches

Tomsche17 Nov 2013 8:17 a.m. PST

I'm going to give it a go, even though the verification process now lists everything on the wife's name hehehe (she 'owns' the family visa)

It's looking a bit low on stock shall we say!
