There have been many threads on recasting, both in general and as a result of off specific sellers. But here is a "new" variable--should it be MORE suspicious when metal GW figures are being sold, outside of blister packs, from a non-western European or North American seller? Is it fair to be more suspicious of someone from Eastern Europe or Asia?

Well I would be wary of buying anything not directly from gw or in person.
I'm weird like that though. I've bought too many fakes, and dud models to not be wary.

Well I would be weary of buying anything

Being wary can be very wearing.

Sorry auto keyboard said that "wary" wasn't a word. Lol I fixed it

Sorry auto keyboard said that "wary" wasn't a word.

Where did it say that?

Considering the rubbish quality of figures I have received in the past direct from GW and Foundry, I just remain sceptical of everything. Guess that just makes me a grumpy old man.

I would be more wary of sellers who list a lot of these suspected recasts on Ebay, as in an Ebay store. If it's only a couple they're probably legit.

Yeah, the sellers who always seem to have multiples of sought after oop figures kinda set of my alarms… but I'm not really all that vigilant and happily buy used stuff unless it's coming from Eastern Europe or Asia… which I suppose is a bit prejudiced.

I've been burned by EBay sellers in North America, who sold recasts. I'm a lot more careful overall.

There's a lot of resin Forgeworld recasters in China, but in most of the cases they're stating in item description that it is recast (aliexpress, etc). Never bought stuff from them myself, as I'm not in WH40K, but have some friends who got some vessels…quality is a bit worse and material is more brittle – so cost/benefit analysys should be done ;)

Ask how they got them.

As I've flagged up elsewhere, there's a seller allegedly based in Cork, Ireland (but who actually ships from Poland) who sells large units of 'rare' GW LOTR metal miniatures.

His (negative) feedback now shows people who have been ripped off warning of recasts, but eBay seem to be taking no action while their cut keeps rolling in.

Sure they're probably facilitating fraud by continuing to provide a platform for a seller to sell counterfeit goods after having been alerted to the fact, but I'm equally sure they could afford better lawyers than me…

Having been stuck with recasts from Warmbeaches, I now will not buy any figures from anyone aside from the manufacturer, a distributer or someone I know personally.
