I live up the Penobscot River(Bangor,Maine) from the area where the Expedition happened. My dad graduated from Maine Maritime in Castine,Maine
Having visited Fort Point State Park Many a time,I'm aware that there had been a British fort there in the Seven Years War (French and Indian War)When I saw a period (American War of Independence)painting and sketch map of the area with anfortification at Fort Point(across Penobscot Bay from Castine,my Alleged mind turned to the possibility that the old fort there had been expanded upon. Two gaming friends helped me to find the trace of the larger fortification in the woods northwest of the lighthouse installation in 1979, which trace the State of Maine claims is the old remnant foundation of a large

late-19th-century resort hotel ) (!)

Very nicely done.

If it's your cup of tea Bernard Cornwall wrote a book about this called "The Fort". Was actually a good read I thought, and I'm not a big Cornwall fan.
