Hi all, Can anyone recommend a good game/hobby store in or near Denver, Colorado? Ideally, I'd find a store with historical miniatures and/or plastic toy soldiers (54mm), and/or deep racks and shelves of old figures I haven't seen in years, still marked at their original prices. Too much to ask, eh? :-) How about just your favorite game/hobby/model store in Denver? Thanks |

Most wargame related stores have folded in the last few years, victims of the internet, and the recent recession. The Wizard's Chest in Cherry Creek has fantasy gaming for primarily an adolescent crowd. Good Euro-game selection. Bonnie Brae Hobbies on South Broadway provides RPG, Fantasy, and historical gaming in relatively spartan surroundings. In stock supplies for wargaming are limited. Games Workshop has a store on South Colorado Blvd. with the usual customer demographics. For hobby supplies and materials there is Colpar hobbies, recently converted to Hobbytown stores out on Havana, in East Denver. Very good stock, but aimed at plastic modelers and RC cars and planes. IPMS and a Naval modeling club meet there. But the best of all is the superbly stocked Caboose Hobbies on Broadway in Denver. It's a model railroad store, one of the finest in the US, but its stock of paints, modeling tools, wood and plastic stock, trees and terrainning materials, as well as scale structures that may be converted to wargame use is extremely good. If you have any interest in scratch building, look no further. Brick and mortar shops are rapidly disappearing. The last outstanding shop was Attactix, gone three years ago. |

They have been closing and opening on a regular basis around here. Troll Country Games has been sold, moved and renamed. Its somewhere on East Hampden I believe. The stores that are surviving are doing it mostly on card sales. Probably the best miniature place is Total Escape Games in Broomfield, you won't find old stock up there. Those in addition to what was mentioned above. My personal favorite stores now aren't even in Denver; Gamer's Haven in Colorado Springs, Collectormania in Parker and the Haunted Games Cafe and Griffon Games in Fort Collins. |

Colorado Springs has a Hobbytown (the south one) that carries some Armies in Plastic in addition to what has become the 'normal' load of historicals (Perry, WF, Warlord plastics and FoW) around here, and Gamer's Haven carries similar with an emphasis on Saga and Bolt Action. So if by any chance you're really going to the Springs, but thinking Denver because it's bigger, there's no reason to leave town. Rich |
