200 years ago today, 26th August, two battles were fought for the future of Germany. At the Katzbach river, two hard charging Marshals went at it hammer and tongs, Blucher agains Macdonald. Blucher overcame, resulting in the German phrase 'to go at it like Blucher at Katzbach'. This loss resulted in a strategic reversal for Napoleon, despite his brilliant victory at Dresden today and tomorrow 200 years ago.

Well, in all truth…it was Katzbach and Kulm that nullified Dresden. Had either one of those two defeats been, heck…just averted, Dresden would have been a major strategic victory.

True, true, but Kulm's not for a few days yet…

As we are at the campaign of 1813, the 200th anniversary of Leipzig is rolling in…

I read that the MDR is planning a four day "live" report on the battle.

Okay, I'll ask…since it sounds interesting:

What's the MDR?

Interesting that Germany has suddenly recovered its interest in nationalistic military history. For a couple of generations, these topics were considered in poor taste and embarrassing for the German mainstream.
