We fought another 1866 game at the club last night. Totally different result this time as the Austrians managed to avoid being known down in droves trying to assault the Prussians, except for Conrad's brigade which was under orders to sacrifice itself gloriously for the greater good!

Nice to see an Austrian victory – rare as hens' teeth.

Nice looking game! What rules did you use? Forming square during 1866?

Thanks,

John

John. We used Black Powder. Squares in 1866 are factually accurate. The Prussians were forced into square by the Hannoverians at Langensaltza and actually had at least one broken by cavalry. That's despite having the needle gun.

If the Austrians had formed firing lines, as indeed some jaeger units did the Prussians would have had their work cut out getting in close enough -as it was the Austrian artillery gave them a Hell of a time. All this we can try out on the table!!!
