Just received an email that they're closing – damn!
Stuff is on sale now.

Mr Canuck20 Aug 2013 10:27 a.m. PST

Bad news indeed!

What did the email say? --there's no particular mention of this on the Woodrow site.

It was posted on the Woodrow wall:

Dear Customer,

Over the past two months, our family business went through some struggles related to personal illness. We have made the hard decision to sell off our business. In the meantime, we have begun selling off inventory, until we find a buyer who will buy us out.

All 1/72 Italeri – $5 USD a box
28mm Victrix – Half price
28mm HaT – Half price

And much more…

Thank you for your patronage over the past 13 years.

Sorry to hear about that. i guess that explains why they never answered my repeated e-mails when I was having problems ordering from the site.

ArchiducCharles20 Aug 2013 11:23 a.m. PST

Damn. There's so few Canadian online stores as it is.

Indeed, there are too few Canadian online Stores. Sad news.

Quite a lot of challenges and changes for the family running Woodrow's. This decision was made by my good friend with a heavy heart, but he really had no choice.

However, there is a potentially viable part-time business opportunity here for a buyer. They have a lot of contacts on both the retail and wholesale side and a distribution network.

I am so sorry to hear that. they where great people to deal with. I will miss them greatly if such is the case.

Just to let U all know I chatted with Darryl
today and he is retiring and his son Mark is
doing other endeavours at this time. He said
it was time to call it quits and I wished him
well, the family business will be missed.

Good luck to the Wall family.

Regards
James

Dear Friends,

Thank you for the kind remarks. After many months of introspection and streamlining the business we have decided to reformat and carry on. The new business will focus on 1/72 scale, so we are selling off all the Warlord Games, Wargames Factory, Plastic Soldier Company and so forth. We will continue to offer the newest releases and a great line up from: HaT Industrie, Pegasus Hobbies, Caesar Miniatures, Armourfast tanks, Zvezda, Wargames Accessories metal base stands and a few select goodies. I hope that you will continue to support us as you have before.

Warm regards,

Mark

Woodrow's was the first distributor to ship me product and pictures of that product on my shelves openned up a lot of doors for me.

As they moved more towards 1/72 they lost my business as I could never get the products I needed from them.

It's hard to maintain a business with limited time and capital, so I can appreciate how they came to focus on what was working for them.

I've been thinking of setting up a webstore, but haven't had the time to do stuff like entering inventory. Neutral Ground is still very much a part time side line. But if there's enough interest in Mantic, Warlord, Plastic Soldier, Battle Front, and Wargames Factory product in the broader world out there, it might help me decide to keep my doors open.

At the moment, sales have been very soft since November and I'm having to make some hard decisions myself.
