Here are some pics of my latest addition to my Civilian fleet, the Free Trader "Calypso". This is a non-Mongoose miniature (Iron Wind Metals Aerotech2 "Inazuma Corvette (20-196) ).

Nice repurposing. It really looks the part of a Free Trader. |

Thank you. Part of the reason I have been buying non-Mongoose miniatures is that some of the civilian ships aren't exactly easy to come by. Either not released or "available but vaporware". I've been working up some convention scenarios that use civilian ships, so I had to have something to put on the map as targets, er, objectives. :) And I think that lots of variety in civilian ships is a good thing; that's the one place where one can experiment with non-canon hulls and paintjobs without upsetting the traditionalists too much. :) |

Thanks so much, and does look perfect in there! Doug Edit: "available but vaporware". Have come to expect that; you've proven the value of the old adage, and your 'lemonade' is delicious! |

I've always liked convoy scenarios, dating back to my interest in WWII naval actions, so my fleets include lots of civilian ships from many different lines. Lots of freighters, but also a dozen or so space liners, some to use as objectives/targets, others to transport troops around. I even have a small resin Fhloston Paradise that I picked up on Ebay a decade ago. |

*squealing like a little girl* Really?!? Could run as space ship, in Leviathan, or even Dystopian Wars. SO multi-purpose! Commerce raiding can be so tricky to balance out. Too oft becomes just a turkey shoot, one side or the other. But a well-planned scenario is SO compelling! Doug |

I am working on an ACTA:SF scenario for the Fall-in convention in November, that includes a warship escorted Federation convoy trying to evade a superior Klingon force by entering a nebula. They hope to escape off the other side where reinforcements for both sides are arriving. In a nebula, shields don't work, weapon ranges are halved, and most weapons have a -2 to fire. All of a sudden those fancy Klingon shields are not functional
:0 Holy close range slaughter, Batman!

There used to be a guy on Ebay who sold resin castings of scratch-built spaceships from TV and movies. In addition to the 3-inch-long, one-piece Paradise, he sold ships from 2001, the original Battlestar Galactica, Silent Running, and the Star Trek TV shows and movies, including the Enterprise XCV-330 (the dual-ringed version) as shown in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. All of the kits were between 2 and 4 inches long, so not in-scale with each other, but they were nice sizes for display. They were also a little crude, but the ones I got look good painted on the tabletop. (For example, the "round things" on the sides of the Paradise are obviously kit-bashed wheels from a small model airplane kit.) I wish I'd bought more of them, but I didn't, and I didn't even keep track of the guy's name, so I have no idea if he's still out there somewhere churning out more spaceships. |

The MicroMachines Star Wars Lady Luck from the Heir to the Empire set makes another good civilian ship:
As does the Flurry from the Truce at Bakura set:
I'd like to do a Flurry repaint with a big Ritz-Carlton logo on top:
