For those of you who don't know yet, Skytrex has gone into administration. No more orders are being taken and there will be a sale to sell off existing stock shortly. |
captainquirk | 10 Aug 2013 2:04 a.m. PST |
Wow, Skytrex have been around for as long as I can remember. It's been years and years since they had anything that I wanted to buy personally. Will seem strange with them not having a stand at UK shows. |
Sparker | 10 Aug 2013 2:11 a.m. PST |
Yes one of the old, bold greats of UK wargaming. I can still remember the excitement with which us young Second Formers at skool recieved our heavy mail from 'Lymeswold, Leicestershire' with some rather suspicious looks from Matron! 'Now young Sparker, I hope no-one in your family has been so cruel as to send you toffee – you know you have a weight problem!' 'No please Matron its only a load of lead'

I understood they were in the process of selling everything off in preparation for retirement. A number of ranges have already gone
|
Veteran Cosmic Rocker | 10 Aug 2013 3:43 a.m. PST |
I've owned many Skytrex products over the 40+ years I have been wargaming – lots of great memories
I hope they enjoy the retirement if that is the case. |
Monkey Hanger | 10 Aug 2013 3:45 a.m. PST |
As far as I was aware – they were selling off the wargaming side and still continuing with the railway side of things, maybe theyv'e had a change of mind and retirement is the better option. Sad to see them go as I have spent many a happy hour building/painting their models. :-) |
OldGrenadier | 10 Aug 2013 5:14 a.m. PST |
Let's hope someone picks up the molds at least. |
Texas Jack | 10 Aug 2013 5:31 a.m. PST |
Wow, that is sad news. I had some discussions with them last year about buying one of their lines but it was much too pricey for me. Naturally they didn´t mention anything about financial problems at that time. Sorry to see them go in this way. |

It says they are selling their wargames arm of the business to concentrate on the (more lucrative) Railway modelling
.. |
Mako11 | 10 Aug 2013 8:40 a.m. PST |
I certainly hope someone picks up their 1/600th WWII Air and Naval range, as well as their 1/700th scale Missile Boats range. |
Tarleton | 10 Aug 2013 9:18 a.m. PST |
Sad to see them end this way. At least the 20mm molds have a new safe home in Early War Miniatures and Shellhole Scenics who are revitalising them. See their recent posts
. |
Robert666 | 10 Aug 2013 9:26 a.m. PST |
Will this affect Heroics and Ros who according to their website are moving in with them? |
Doms Decals | 10 Aug 2013 9:29 a.m. PST |
You've misread something badly there Robert – Heroics and Ros are sharing production with SHQ, not Skytrex. They bought a small range off of Skytrex, but that's it, no connection with them for ongoing production. |
Mako11 | 10 Aug 2013 9:32 a.m. PST |
I believe I read somewhere that their 1/144th scale planes were picked up by someone, so hopefully those molds are in good hands. Can't recall for sure, but I think that has occurred. |
Doms Decals | 10 Aug 2013 9:34 a.m. PST |
Yeah, they went months ago – Red Eagle is the new firm; they picked up their 1/1200 Napoleonic Naval too. redeagleminiatures.co.uk |

This is indeed sad news. A long time war gaming manufacturer gone in such a bad way. martin |
Cheriton | 10 Aug 2013 1:41 p.m. PST |
I certainly hope someone picks up their 1/600th WWII Air and Naval range, as well as their 1/700th scale Missile Boats range. Yes, and the 1/700th Trafalgar range
sigh, wishful thinking I am afraid. Cheers, |
The Pied Piper | 10 Aug 2013 4:09 p.m. PST |
"It says they are selling their wargames arm of the business to concentrate on the (more lucrative) Railway modelling
.." That was the plan, but the railway side is also going now. Maybe they needed to sell more of their wargaming ranges to be able to afford to continue with that. Having said that, they have almost £180.00 GBPk worth of railway stock! |
LeonAdler | 11 Aug 2013 3:04 p.m. PST |
Well thats the last of my generation gone now i suspect, jeez makes me feel very old indeed. Not planning to retire myself reckon I'll just end up having a stroke when I see some GW copyright issue flare up again lol L |

Dear all, Well the news has not taken long to get out, helped by the administrator contacting anyone who had expressed an interest in their ranges. Both ian (shell hole Scenics) and I (paul of early war miniatures), have known this was coming for about 6 weeks now. After we bought all the 20mm ww2 vehicles and Equipment's from them, we had our thoughts confirmed by the owner and we promised not to tell anyone else. What you have to remember here is that 6 good people that worked there have all lost their jobs. It's a very sad end for such a giant of the wargames industry and we wish every one there well and happier times in the future. As pointed out already, we have started with the remoulding and rebranding of their old Hinchliffe 20mm WW2 vehicles and Equipment's. The original patterns for the models are just superb and with many hard to find items in the range we now own. See this link for more details and the first models to be reworked. link Do please keep watching our news page for updates. I think those old customers of Skytrex will appreciate the new quality of the models shown and the fact it is 1/2 the last price being charged by Skytrex? They are also lighter as made partly from high definition plastic resins and white metal combination so postage is not terrible as before? These models will be branded under a new named business run by both of us called "The 20mm Zone". 20mmzone.com has already been registered for our new jointly owned webstore. More on that subject later perhaps. So all the 20mm WW2 ranges of vehicles and Equipment's will have a new lease of life. As for what else remains to be sold who knows. Thanks for your interest, Paul t@EWM |

Nice to see some very nice kit gone to a very good home. Good luck with it Paul. L |

Ditto for hopes that the 1/600 coastal range finds a home. |
Joes Shop | 12 Aug 2013 4:21 p.m. PST |
Agreed: I've been collecting the 1/600 coastal range for years. Sad end. Regards, J. P. Kelly |
H and R | 13 Aug 2013 2:11 p.m. PST |
The good news is the 1/600th coastal range is safe :-)) I can now confirm Heroics & Ros now own the WW2 Coastal Forces range. We actually purchased this before Skytrex went into administration but as we were moving factories Skytrex had agreed to run the range until the move had been completed. With Skytrex entering administration this is no longer possible. We now need to sort the moulds and stock and organise things. It's going to take a few weeks to do this and we hope to have the Coastal range back on sale in September. I just want to thank the guys at Skytrex for the help and wish them all the best for the future having been made redundant twice I can only sympathies with how they feel and hope the future is good for them. Another nice range gone to a good home :o) Well done and luck with it Andy. You doing Derby this year? If so see you there. L |
Doms Decals | 14 Aug 2013 2:35 a.m. PST |
That's great news Andy – it's one of their best ranges, and since Stronghold disappeared really has no equivalent this side of the pond. |
Joes Shop | 14 Aug 2013 7:54 a.m. PST |
Andy: excellent news, thanks. Regards, J. P. Kelly |
H and R | 14 Aug 2013 1:22 p.m. PST |
Thanks for the best wishes Will post an up date on our web site when they are back on sale. I will be at Derby but not H&R so see you there Leon. Want to do more shows but this year has been pretty tough and need to get things sort and the weekends are a great chance to do that. Next year hope to be attending more shows. Andy |

Has anyone taken over the 1:200 scale aircraft: I found their helicopters fitted in quite well with 10mm figures and vehicles. Being slightly smaller, it gave an impression of scale even thought they were only 6" above the table top. |
WKeyser | 11 Sep 2013 11:48 p.m. PST |
Does any one know if the 15mm WWII ranges are being picked up by anyone? Great figures great price. William |
Kiwi Red One | 28 Sep 2013 3:09 p.m. PST |
Can anyone tell me if Skytrex stocktake sale is still to happen or is it already over? Signed up for emails as per website early in August but only had one email seeking buyers for remaining ranges so far. I note website is still active and advises to sign up so maybe still to happen? After some WW1 1/3000 fleet packs or is Navwar going to get another order? Cheers |
Tango India Mike | 04 Oct 2013 4:28 a.m. PST |
Coming late to this, but does anyone know if either the Vietnam Action 200 range or the 15mm Post War ie Vietnam have been bought? PM if appropriate. Thanks Tim – gomidesigns.co.uk |

Good news(I Think)! It appears skytrex is reborn as Skytrex (2013). At least the web page has now started to sell items again! Yes ranges have been passed out to other companies but the naval stuff is re-opened for sales. I'm about to order some stuff and see what happens. |
iain1815 | 31 Jan 2014 5:06 a.m. PST |
As promised, my order arrived in good time! 7 days including W/end & holidays. Longlive Skytrex 2013! |
