After 10 years of publication, Debi and I have printed the final issue of Charge!, the official newsletter of the Johnny Reb Gaming Society. We published more than 100 American Civil War scenarios over the years, terrain tips, painting guides, and articles of interest to the ACW gamer.

It was a great run, but after 40 issues, it was time to stop and move on to other things. I will be focusing on writing more ACW books (I have 10 in print, with 3 more in various stages of pre-publication).

Farewell.

I will keep the blog going and will still be running games at Historicon, Fall-In, and Cold War occasionally as my schedule allows. I may even tackle another scenario book or two!

Thanks for all you've done promoting the civil war, running enjoyable games and creating scenarios. Hope to see you again when I can get east.

Strike the tent!

I was a nice long run. Enjoy your time off.

Sorry to hear this.
Have been getting the back issues as PDF from Wargamevault.
Any chance of the rules as a PDF for my iPad.

Sad news but understandable. Thanks for the great effort.

Iaager,

Doug Kline of Battlefield Terrain Concepts owns the rights to the Johnny Reb rules sets. Contact him about the rules as a pdf file.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!!!!

Between added responsibilities in my day job at the paper company and my interest in writing books and giving talks at Civil War Round Tables and similar groups, I have little extra free time. My wife, who does all the work in printing and mailing the issues, is babysitting our twin 2-year-old grandsons, so her time is more than full.

We never planned to keep Charge going for 10 years, so it was a great time to stop publication.

Thanks Scott and Debi. I greatly enjoyed getting my issues of Charge! It will be missed. Regards, Rob.

Scott, thanks for all your time and effort to Charge, but a new chapter of your life has arrived! I look forward to reading each new book that you write and still highly recommend one of the best and most interesting books on Gettysburg, "Flames Beyond Gettysburg"!

Thanks and keep it going!

Sad news, but I wish you the best of luck with all of your future endeavors! Thank you for everything that you have done for us!

Thanks again for the wonderful comments, and all of the support over the past decade!

I already said this on Facebook, but I have to say again, this is sad news for wargaming, and especially for ACW, but I understand the need. Great work for a full decade, Scott!

Hi Scott,
Any chance of publishing the scenarios. I would guess alot of folks would be interested in getting them which includes me….

Scott Mingus13 Aug 2013 4:58 p.m. PST

All back issues and special scenario booklets are available for a modest charge on the Wargame Vault.

Great job Scott and family. Please see if you can reprint Gettysburg and Antietam scenario books. It would be great to have those. You have explained the economics to me before, but it would be cool.

Scott Mingus18 Aug 2013 6:26 p.m. PST

Reprinting those books is not my decision. The artwork and all contents except the text is the publisher's (Ivor Janci) and he will make the decision when to reprint them as digital files.

I lost all the Microsoft Word text years ago when a computer crashed and my backup disk could not be found.
