I have about 250 28mm Pathans to paint up. What I am looking for is a suitable acrylic spray to use as a base coat for the complete batch and then customise each individual figure. I was thinking of some shade of off-white, rather than khaki but the closest I can find is Army Painter's Bleached Bone: would that be too coloured? The spray must be available to purchase in the UK, due to prohibition of shipping spray containers by air. Alan |

Bleached Bone or Desert Yellow would be fine. I am half way through my first batch of Blue Moon Pathan tribesmen and used Desert Yellow as a base coat. There are a lot of items of clothing that require a colour other than white. Cheers, |

Pathans mostly wore white; even tribes that wore predominantly grey or blue angarkas (robes) wore white trousers. With wear and dirt it all degraded quickly to an off-white. Undercoat white, pick out blue or grey robes if required along with a few red turbans and sashes, and stain with AP or other dip. |

Thanks. I am really lookig for a colour which would be the most common denominator between the figures and then add the other colours for variety. |

I'm with Henry Martini. Start with white, add the coloured details and then use the Army Painter dip. Will give you a suitably lived in look to the white while quickly adding depth and shadow. White certainly would be the common denominator. |

This might prove a useful stimulant: YouTube link The Drum 1938. |

Timurilank. Thanks for the movie link. Never saw it before. Great entertainment with an interest for wargamers. |

I went with Krylon Camo tan for the base color, roughly drybrushed with P3 Menoth White highlight (a light cream color). Paint any exposed skin and add a color for splash, like green turbans on leaders, otherwise turban color by unit. |

I used a Krylon Ivory white color to base coat my Dervish back in the 1980s. It wasn't acrylic based though. |

Turbans, and sashes could also be blue or grey, or even striped. Kullah pointed caps and skull caps could also be any of these colours, and skull caps were often embroidered with interesting patterns.. |

Rather than white, use a cream color. I found that with any dip, white just looks dirty. Cream does not do that and looks much better with dips. Here's some Boxers I painted.
