Found this nice drawing/diagram of what the inside view of a German fortress bunker of the Siegfied Line looked liked . Robert
This picture shows the inside view of a German fortress bunker of the Siegfied Line. Only the weapons tower is visble above the ground level. link |

All that to support a machine gun nest? At least the lads get to play Flames of War when off duty. Plus the meals look yummy and they have tanning booths. |

I have a serious feeling that the illustration was for propaganda purposes only and bears little relation with reality. The Siegfried Line (more properly called the West Wall) was a hastily (but well) constructed counter to the Maginot Line built mostly to convince the British and French not to attack Germany while Hitler's attentions were turned east. In this it functioned perfectly and illustrations like the one shown which mimic the vast underground fortresses of the Maginot Line with barracks and showers and underground rail lines, were only meant to exaggerate the formidibility of the West Wall. In reality the West Wall consisted of thousands of relatively small, but well-sited pillboxes with interlocking fields of fire, protected by lines of anti-tank obstacles (Dragon's Teeth). |

I agree that it is probably a propaganda drawing. I wish I knew when it was made. I love the artwork. Sure looks like the Maginot line. Nice and comfy LOL. Robert |

I notice that the tanks in the Maginot Line drawing resemble Vickers 6 tonners, or the derived Russian T26. |

So, does that mean that the Maginot Line was designed to protect France from the British? |

So, does that mean that the Maginot Line was designed to protect France from the British? Then they built it the wrong way round! |
