So I just did a quick search for any conversation about the new Space 1889 Kickstarter. Not a peep? Is no one excited by this?

CraigH19 Jul 2013 7:13 a.m. PST

Maybe we didn't know about it….

Here's a link if people are curious

Didn't know. Interesting.

DLIinVSF19 Jul 2013 7:27 a.m. PST

That's because Mr Chadwick only posted it on his site the other day?.Guess people were waiting for the link?

sma194119 Jul 2013 7:33 a.m. PST

Meh…it's just paper no figures.

Huscarle19 Jul 2013 7:33 a.m. PST

Oh dear, so much temptation. I need to seriously look at all the KS/Indie projects that I've backed & try & rationalise them. I'll have to take another look at this tempting morsel next month (when the bank balance may look a little better)!

RAFM did one a while back for Space 1889 miniatures that didnt fare so well – I think it was mainly because it was on Indiegogo rather than Kickstarter.

Not a fan of the whole 'Confederacy survives' concept that I've heard of being associated with this reboot. It didn't survive in the old GDW version.

The first Steampunk RPG will return with new artwork, more background, new illustrations and new rules!

DO I need this as well as my old edition ?

Good for people who missed out the 1st time around.

DLIinVSF19 Jul 2013 4:53 p.m. PST

The RAFM one was flawed for other of reasons, greatest of which was the lack of online advertising to a gain support in the time period. This is after all a proven product in Germany but I do wonder at the target levels.

More info on the new bits would help for those who have a copy of the original version/versions.

…and I agree with 'OldGrenadier at work'on the American Question!

sma1941 there maybe figs?

Looking at Mr Chadwicks blog today there is mention of a Martian Princess and a pic.Doesn't mention what scale.Maybe its coming from Highland Studios with their 15mm range or maybe its direct from the KS.The KS isn't very clear on the subject.

DO I need this as well as my old edition ?

That's my question as well. There is new material, and some rules tweaks, but I've bought the entire run of Space 1889 twice already. A third, I'm not so sure about.

Good for people who missed out the 1st time around.

Sort of, I guess. There's no reason to be missing the GDW version at this point, though – Heliograph has been selling their printings of the line for about a decade and a half now, and continue to do so, along with plenty of other fine VSF stuff:

The rafm kickstarter was extremely confusing. They wanted hundreds of thousands of dollars for a miniatures game a traditional rpg and some computer games as well.

I think there was a licensing renewal issue as well?It was a shame because the ideas for the figs looked good though I could of named another dozen to add to the range.Hopefully we will get some more 25/28mm Space 1889 figs coming out from rafm or somewhere soon.

tsofian21 Jul 2013 8:01 a.m. PST

Oh wait I got my wires crossed! I was thinking of the FASA 1879 project! I don't recall the RAFM project. The FASA one was a train wreck from the get go

The Kickstarter for the Space 1889 roleplaying game went live at 6PM on Wednesday and was 100% funded by this morning (Sunday). By this evening it was at 111% with 34 more funding days to go, so it looks as if we'll see a number of the stretch goal products as well. The pictures I posted on my blog were of the 28mm Martian Princess which will be a premium at one of the higher stretch goal levels.

Double W21 Jul 2013 11:51 p.m. PST

This ruleset is geared toward roleplaying rather than miniatures. It uses the Ubiquity rules -- the same as the RPG Hollow Earth Expedition -- which are a story-based system rather than tactical system. At least with the Savage Worlds edition the stats could easily be converted for miniatures play. Still, this promises to have much more background than the Savage Worlds edition.

skyking2022 Jul 2013 6:25 a.m. PST

So no units in this version; just characters?

Frank Chadwick24 Jul 2013 1:48 p.m. PST

Terry, the RAFM project wasn't actually on Kickstarter. It was on Indiegogo.

And… I am now a backer.

John Treadaway25 Jul 2013 4:15 a.m. PST

Glad this seems to be moving forward: good luck with this Frank: as you know I'm a big fan!
