You forgot the false bow wave she was carrying.

Do you have any photos of the false bow wake? I did not modify the hull as the image search I did looked OK.

I did another search and see a couple drawings/paintings with it, but the photos do not seem to show it.

In the end it is a gaming model, but not opposed to change it is it should be there.

Thanks!

Excellent, the ones I saw immediately after the attack and dry dock did not seem to show it. May be because she was down by the bow and/or charred.

So I found this drawing which clearly shows it.

Looks like I may want to darken up the hull a bit while I am at it.

Thanks again!

Have a look here: link

Look also at Oklahoma as she was also carrying the Measure 5 false bow wave: link

Official instructions for Measure 5 here: link

Great links although the second one seems to not being working.

I recently did USS Arizona and plan to do a few of the others that I have pre-refit models for(Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, West Virgina and Maryland). Is there one good source to tell me what measure each would have? Assuming most would be Meassure 5?

The measeure instructions are great as well as it also tells me how far down to come with the light gray (even with top of the stack).

BTW, now that I am looking for the bow wave you can see the top of it even is some of the post battle pics.

Forget it…clicking around on the third link revealed everything I need is righ there.

Thanks!

Of the Battle Line, only Nevada & Oklahoma were carrying the Measure 5 false bow wave at Pearl Harbor. It was used on a few cruisers--Northampton and Salt Lake City come to mind. And yes, it was a deceptive measure designed to disrupt submarine firing solutions.

Is there a deception or other purpose of the false bow wave? To make a submarine torpedo firing misjudge the speed?

Submarine or surface torpedoes, and any visually-controlled naval gunnery.

Torpedo aiming is a pretty complex trigonometry problem, since you need to aim the spread for where the target will be when the torps get there. So the shooter needs to know range to target, 'angle on the bow' (which way the target is moving in relation to the shooter), and target speed.

Those variables are also present in gunnery, but angle on the bow and target speed are much less significant.
