The organizers of Historicon, 2013 will be putting on another great convention. From what I read, they listened to and acted on participants complaints, and compliments too.

One problem with this year's event is that the theme relates to an historical year and not the most important year to the Hobby. In 1913 the underlying themes of the hobby itself were published by H. G. Wells in "Little Wars." Yet the organizers seem to have completely overlooked this seminal event in our history.

I have been thinking about this since 2003 which was the 90th anniversary of Little Wars. I put on a game of LW at that year's convention and thought about the big "to-do" that would happen in 2013. At that time, I planned to have a small part in the celebration, by doing a Little Wars game on the putting green of the Host. Well, we have moved so I will be doing the game on a table, in a nice room (I hope, not in the "bull pen"). I guess this is all the "to do" for the centennial there will be. Look us up Saturday afternoon.

This will be a recreation of Hooks Farm using the exact of rules of Wells on the same layout as he shows. I did use foam instead of wood for the hills to make transportation easier. There will be shooting naval guns -- the post 1934 version. I will have an original on display, however. The figures are all Britains figures, most post-WW2. I would love to have originals of what is shown in the photos in the book :)

The event will even be a regular theme game as I will have many American Civll War between the States figures involved. Mostly it is Red (with a few Khaki) vs Blue (with a few gray).

Below is the Missing Theme Logo created into buttons by Dennis Frank. Also a sample command of French Foreign Legion and a naval gun with projectile.

I hope folks will come by and see how we got our start in this wonderful adventure we now call War Gaming (or is it Wargaming).
