Found this after a little more searching. It says it was captured in 2006.Iraq bought CVs from Italy between 1936 and 1941. Robert

Captured ? Does that imply it's in running order and was actively being used by the Iraqi forces ? Mind boggles if true ! |

Discovered by the US forces for sure. Whether it was or is in running order or why and where it was found I'm not sure.Robert |

I don't care if they were fighting on the "wrong side". I sure admire the bravery of the men who got into those tin cans. |

Wow! They still exist? A couple years back, I actually scratch-built the Iraqi CV-33s and Vickers armoured cars:
(The German helmets and AT guns are pure fantasy, given that the Germans never supplied them with anything but surplus French guns and rifles- and too late to boot) |

It really does look like its in good condition. The soldier in it gives a good size comparison. Robert |

I've seen some quotes of 16 Fiat L-33/35s being supplied to the Iraqis. Robert link |

There are a lot of the little Italian tankettes surviving, I didn't know about them being found in Iraq, but knew some had been found in Afghanistan. This document is interesting as it gives details of the known surviving examples PDF link |

Looks like most are in Italy which isn't surprising. Here is the one found in Afghanistan in 2009,

I wonder if that was the only one or if there are more somewhere in Iraq. Robert |

The smaller ones are harder to hit. They would also be able to move though small trails and such where larger vehicles could't. Not surprised they survived. My Italian grandfather worked for a salvage company in Sierra Leone in the 50s and 60s. I shudder to think how many tanks and other war material ended up on barges to be sent back for recycling in Italy. |

If the Iraqis only had 16 I would think this would be a very rare peice. Robert |
