We played our first game of Bolt Action last night. A question about weapon teams came up. If a weapon team like a bazooka or mmg is hit and killed is the entire team killed or do you take off one of the assistant figures and suffer a -1 to hit? I read in he rule book that once the team weapon is taken out of action the whole team is destroyed. Thanks Chuck | | Shootmenow | 11 Jul 2013 1:15 p.m. PST

Hi ChuckI hope you enjoyed your game. Teams tend to cause some confusion at first as you can inflict 2 types of casualty on them
a 'standard' casualty and an 'exceptional damage' casualty. I don't have my book to hand but if you check the shooting section then you will find a paragraph explaining 'exceptional damage'. Basically it's where the firing player chooses which model of the target unit is a casualty. In the case of the Bazooka team then he would (probably!) designate the figure carrying the Bazooka as the casualty. When the model carrying or firing the team weapon becomes a casualty then the whole team is removed. Also check the rule on Snipers as they can inflict Exceptional Damage hits.
If you score a casualty on a team that is not an Exceptional damage hit then your opponent just removes one of the team (or marks it in some way to show it has suffered a casualty). Under these circumstances the team continues to fight but if it is reduced to 1 model then it suffers a -1 to hit on its shooting.
Sorry if the explanation is a bit long!

@Shootmenow: Thanks for your help. Thats how I thought it worked. I didnt participate in the game. I was running things and looking up rule questions. The two players were enjoying themselves and we're planning on playing Bolt Action again. | | Mr Elmo | 11 Jul 2013 5:29 p.m. PST

The only thing to add is that small arms fire cannot damage an artillery weapon. This makes something like a US 75mm howitzer different than the 81mm mortar, despite the identical 3 crew and D6 HE. Mortars get indirect but can suffer exceptional damage. | | Ruben Megido | 20 Jul 2013 3:18 a.m. PST

But if the team is reduced to one man, shouldn´t also make a morale check for losing the 50% of the unit in a single attack? If this check is not passed the team would be destroyed. Though one, i guess.
