link As far as I can tell, they plan to create a website that will allow you to customize one of their designs for a miniature. Based on what they are showing (see update #2), I think they are going to need a lot more than $75 USDK. Ten out of ten for trying but it sure looks to me, based on their model, that acceptable quality, affordably priced 3D printed miniatures aren't here yet. I also have to wonder if some of the $13 USD backers are thinking that they are fully customizeable – as in, you will tell them you want a left-handed kettle drummer and a few weeks later, you will get one in the mail. |

3d printed is probably not the best option for this. Would be better if they designed a dolly system that allowed you to buy parts and combine them to make a figure. So all the arms/legs/heads fit into sockets with various add-ons like wings or backpacks. Start in fantasy and move to other genres. Start with 20 or so parts in each category and say 10 basic body styles. Concentrate on D&D class types. Legs might have to be integrated. Could get interesting. Has several benefits. The bits are good for well the bits market and you can keep expanding. Need a 28mm US soldier with wings and a flaming sword? Buy these 3 packs and glue them together! Might need to run 3 parallel lines. Male, Female, and Creature. |
