I am starting an Imagination army collection and thinking of using The Zvezda GNW Range picking them up cheap as I go along there is a few here auction I am thinking of getting. But what is putting me off is the compatibility with other ranges and the possible lack of Command figures Generals and such. Am I better to stick to Metal ranges or take the plunge into plastic? |

For a general I would probably just use a Strelets dragoon figure. GerMan makes a WSS line you may want to take a look at for Imaginations armies. Irregular makes mounted officers and generals in requisite foppery in their Augsburg range. |

I looked at Irregular but the are much smaller. Strellets my be an option they do seem to have loads of character I will check them out. |

Here's a mix of Zvezda and Strelets with other odd figures thrown in. Most of the cavalry is Strelets but the very good Zvezda cavalry and dragoons include many figures that can be turned into generals. link (Click on the first photo, then click on its separate popup close-up; and then click on the sideways arrow > link at the photo bottom to get a slideshow of the photo set.) And thank you, Flickr, for fixing something that wasn't broke. |

And this site will allow you to preview what the figures look like to help you with your planning. link |

You're welcome, Ned. Enjoy your project. BTW, there are a bunch of ImagiNations here although most are metals: emperor-elector.blogspot.ca Some plastics ones are
Pauly Wauly's wargames blog Will wargames blog (see the sidebar links under Topics for 18th C) The Wars of Wine and Cheese The Grand Duchy of Stollen (the earlier years are all plastic; see the Archive in the sidebar) The Kingdom of Wittenberg (metals but with great palaces etc.) And this article might help influence you too: link |

A very impressive collection indeed. I took part in a game last night with lots of plastic 20mm's, really impressed by them and now rather regret moving to tghe metal stuff all those years ago. |

The Zvezda cavalry sets have some nice officer figures. I use Charles Grant organisation, so two boxes of Swedish dragoons gets me 24 troopers, 4 officers, with 2 left over – instant generals etc. The Russian dragoons officer is even better – very impressive figure, fancy details etc. I also use the artillery officer on a base with horse and horseholder etc for command figures. Currently, I have some Minifig 25mm metal WSS/7YW generals – they fit reasonably well, especially considering that they will be on their own command bases. They have plastic ADCs with them, and for these I use the larger plastic figures (the later Italeri cavalry sets have BIG horses – so I use those ). The Strelets figures are a bit smaller, but again, on their own bases they will fit in just fine. |

There are some compatible metals out there. I bought some nice "Wodensfeld" French and some generic War of Austrian Succession figures. I'm not sure if John is still making these – anyone know? Also there are a number of German manufacturers who make very nice 1/72 figures. They are a bit expensive but fine for generals etc. |
