Does anybody know if you can wargame the Dark Ages and Medieval periods using MA. Or is it only relegated to Ancients?

Sure, no problem. The rule book includes unit creation rules. If you reference the army lists from DBA or FoG for an idea of troop types for your army of choice, you can create the specific units you want with a reasonably historical force selection list.

The game is pretty flexible. As an example, I've been hammering out some adjusted rules for Renaissance MA and it's working out great so far.

Thanks Scott. I've got the fantasy rules but want to start doing some historical games too.

Right now I am building a Viking army to go after my Romano British. We are using the Fantasy rules with a few tweaks… No magic but with the Ancients command system…

As I understand it, armies are larger in the Ancients. 60 points or so, is that correct?

Pick up Dux Bellorum from Osprey for an A+ Dark Age set.

I do have Dux Bellorum actually. It's a good system.

Yes, in Ancients it is is 60 points. Right now I building the British Romano at 120 each.

That's a big army. I started basing my Romano British 16 figs on 60mm x 30mm bases double rank, but I'm thinking about using this system for MA as well.

Mighty Armies Ancients is a great system if you desire ease of play, quick results and not too large armies. With some small modifications, you can increase the historical accuracy without damaging the elegance of the rules. Armies can be historically reproduced by doing some research and applying the proper special abilities to units. Our group really enjoys Mighty Armies Ancients and I have built 6 armies thus far from the 5th century A.D. and plan to build several more in order to fight really large battles.
