"The French campaign of 1809 profoundly affected the Hungarian collective consciousness. It reached its height at the time of the Battle of Győr (Raab), on June 14, 1809, which ended with the victory of the French army in Italy commanded by Viceroy Eugène in the face of troops raised by the Hungarian nobles and imperial and royal forces under the command of Archduke John.
