Hey all,
Just an inquiry about the use of temperate DPM in Iraq and Afghanistan? Was and is there cases of mixed Desert and Temperate DPM uniforms?
Thanks

Only at the very start of either campaign and then generally with the rear based support arms. Also so it would be at unit level ie all in temperate or all in desert. the only time I saw mixed was when it rained and temperate waterproof jacket might be worn with normal desert bottoms or such like

On Telic One there was a mix but either temperate of desert not a mix (except desert boots). A troop of Royal Engineers was engaged by a passing US unit because they assumed anyone in "green/temperate uniform" was the enemy! Luckily no casualties.
Initially in Kabul temperate uniform, outside in desert, again desert boots were widespread. Helmand saw desert kit, although prior to MTP normal practice in the field was a mix of temperate and desert that was found an effective cam, can't remember order,

Ive done 3 tours of Iraq and I'm currently on my fifth of Afghanistan, so I think I can speak on this one. On the first Afghanistan tour 02 in Kabul we wore temperate dpm and the marines wore temperate smocks with desert trousers and shirts. For the first telic we were issued temperate smocks to go over our desert kit, but a few had desert smocks as well. Then it was desert kit only for the next few tours, though we always took a temperate smock for green zone and night work. You would never see temperate trousers with a desert top though, it doesn't look right. MTP now of course.
