You are on your honor on this. you can't look it up. you have to know the answer first. In The Great Escape, the few Yanks celebrate July 4th by buying up all the potatoes in Stalag Luft 3G and making moonshine. They parade around as The Spirit of '76. The trio is composed of Steve McQueen (Hilts), James Garner (Hendley) and
the other guy. Who is the "other guy" actor? Remember. You are not allowed to Google or use IMDB to "research" it. You are on your hono(u)r to know his name without using some cheap internet tricks to show off. |

And you carry this information around in your head?? MH |
John the OFM | 21 Jun 2013 7:28 p.m. PST |
I don't. I'm asking. There are those who know the names of ALL of the Magnificent 7. I am asking anyone who honestly knows, without cheating. |

John the OFM | 21 Jun 2013 7:55 p.m. PST |
No, this was one of the only 3 Americans. Ives was a Scot. |

Character was a "tanker" if I remember (probably incorrectly!)
C'mon
WHO! |
jpattern2 | 21 Jun 2013 8:20 p.m. PST |
Yeah, I can picture him, but I can't recall the name of the character or actor. |
TBeyer | 21 Jun 2013 8:25 p.m. PST |
Was it Charles Bronson? He is about the only other 'American' I can think of – although in the movie didn't he play a soldier of Polish descent? |
John the OFM | 21 Jun 2013 8:39 p.m. PST |
No. He plays an actual Polish soldier. He must be in a British unit, since I doubt the Germans would bother to throw an obvious Polish troublemaker in a simple POW camp. |
John the OFM | 21 Jun 2013 8:44 p.m. PST |
I should point out that James Garner's character is an American, serving in the RAF. |
Fatman | 21 Jun 2013 8:58 p.m. PST |

vojvoda | 22 Jun 2013 8:38 a.m. PST |
Looked a little like the guy (Anthony Perkins) from Psycho. But do not know him or remember any other movie he was in. VR James Mattes |
Silent Pool | 22 Jun 2013 10:59 a.m. PST |
Is it you, sir? Are you being coy? (The film was made over 80 years ago and is never shown on UK TV. It's an unfair question. Huh!) |

Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Robert Vaughan, Horst Bucholz AND Brad Dexter (the one everyone forgets about). Sorry, can't help with the 3rd American. |
cwbuff | 25 Jun 2013 6:44 a.m. PST |
Brad Dexter? Just a guess without going to IMDB. I shall now go there. |
cwbuff | 25 Jun 2013 6:48 a.m. PST |
Nope. But I shall not ruin the quiz. |
Oberst Radl | 25 Jun 2013 8:13 a.m. PST |
No, but to quote Harry Connick, Jr. in Memphis Belle, "Ah, I can see that guy's face." |
