Hope ya like & comments welcome!

Looks great!

Kevin,
Thanks!
Tim,
Yes, all ships are Thoroughbred as are the forts. Docks, landing & a few other things are Bay Yard. Other stuff, I made. The mat is Hotz, but I painted on it. Thanks for the kind words ya'll.

This looks fascinating.

Are the rules still available?

I checked Bay Yard's website and was simply confused by it.

Ceterman20 Jun 2013 8:11 p.m. PST

Thanks Whitestreak & yes as far as I know:

Under Rules, on left sidebar, says "Sail and Steam Navies" at least on my screen…

Outstanding painting and landscape! Love to see realistic set ups like this!

deephorse21 Jun 2013 5:37 a.m. PST

Fantastic painting. I've got many of the same models but yours look so much better. I'd better make some notes.

Disco Joe21 Jun 2013 6:43 a.m. PST

That looks fabulous. Excellent job. I will definitely have to check it out at Historicon.

Ceterman21 Jun 2013 7:13 a.m. PST

Thanks everyone! We played Ironclads (Yaquinto) back in the late 70's & until Toby can get those into a mini format (which didn't make it on Kickstarter, damnit!), S&SN is our choice of rules. Been working this past year to get this ready & I think it will be a fun game! Hope to see some of ya'll there.

I checked Bay Yard's website and was simply confused by it.

How so?

And the rules are currently out of stock.

Regrebnelle21 Jun 2013 8:40 a.m. PST

Great looking set-up!

Trajanus21 Jun 2013 9:30 a.m. PST

Nice Job!

I see the Confederates were using that sneaky old trick of trying to pull both sides of the river together! :o)

Whitestreak21 Jun 2013 9:36 p.m. PST

Odd.

Last night, the entire page for the rules was scrambled around.

The joys of the internet sometimes…

Any idea if you'll be getting more copies in stock?

Or offering the rules by download?

I'll talk to Steve. They are not a BAY product but rather from a third party, so it may take a while to get an answer.

Ceterman22 Jun 2013 11:51 a.m. PST

They are quite good rules. We like em better than most!

Ceterman22 Jun 2013 3:30 p.m. PST

I should say we like em better than all the others out there. They work very well for us. The only thing that sometimes throws us off is, you move twice in a turn. I like it but it does take some getting used to. But so does CrossFire, my favorite WW2 rules.

Whitestreak22 Jun 2013 11:01 p.m. PST

Here's hoping that the rules become available again, in some form or another.

I know that some games are doing fairly well being sold via Wargames Vault.

Sir Marcus25 Jun 2013 2:44 p.m. PST

We've been playing these rules in Ontario for a few years as well. They always produce a fun game. The ship logs (tons of them) come with the rules so you don't have to spend extra money on that. Lots of 10-siders, easy to reference colour-coded charts, and some very attractive models in 1/600th scale make this a great game. See you at Historicon.

Ceterman25 Jun 2013 9:04 p.m. PST

Sir Marcus,
Did you sign up to play? It would be nice to have some players who also are familiar with the rules. But, we will have some "house/convention" rules thrown in, so be aware!

Sir Marcus26 Jun 2013 5:32 p.m. PST

Yeah, I'm in. I wouldn't miss this game. It should be lots of fun.

Karl King of Geeks27 Jun 2013 8:08 a.m. PST

It's ok for a diorama, but I wouldn't want to play on it.

Karl King of Geeks28 Jun 2013 7:25 a.m. PST

All jokes aside, Pete (Ceterman)creates some of the best looking tables around. If Ironclads isn't your thing, at least come by the table and see some fantastic gaming artwork!

Ceterman28 Jun 2013 8:42 a.m. PST

Awww, ain't ya kind…

holien30 Jun 2013 1:51 a.m. PST

Great looking game.

Whitestreak15 Jul 2013 7:49 p.m. PST

Sail and Steam Navies is now available on Wargames Vault. Just purchased a copy.

Ceterman15 Jul 2013 8:25 p.m. PST

I was hoping you would see that, Whitestreak! I think you will like em…

Whitestreak16 Jul 2013 7:11 p.m. PST

There's something I just realized about this – there's only around 60 pages of rules & around 500 pages of logs, charts and such!

Wow!

Ceterman26 Jul 2013 8:42 p.m. PST

capncarp,
Thanks. Now go clean yourself up!
The games were really well played at H-Con. I think everybody enjoyed them, I know I had fun being the "Angel of Death", going around adding smoke, flame, mayhem & general destruction to the table! I just set up the game & Don did the GM'ing. (well, most of it) We had a GREAT time. I think next year, for the 1st time in about 14 years, I'll just play some other peoples games.
Peter

Geoffr17 Sep 2013 2:04 p.m. PST

I was part of both of these games at H'con, once playing, and, once watching and sympathizing with a friend who was playing. Everything about the games was well done, from the table to the running of the games. We were so inspired we are hoping to do some ACW naval using the same rules at our local con next spring up here in the frozen north.

Ceterman20 Sep 2013 4:40 p.m. PST

Geoff,
Thanks for the kind words. We enjoyed putting it on! It's good to know we inspired someone, somewhere!
Maybe see next year at H-con. I know I'll be there!

Old Contemptibles20 Sep 2013 6:57 p.m. PST

Nice. Where did the info. on what colors to paint the ships?

Ceterman21 Sep 2013 3:25 p.m. PST

Rallynow,
Whatta mean? Do ya mean, how did I paint them? Prime black. Then pretty much dry brush several light grays on metal parts, then add some dry brushed rust color, then a black wash. Then some dry-brush white or very light gray highlights. Outline or fill in a few things (deck items, screens, port holes and gun holes with solid black). If wood is involved, paint a light wood color (kinda yellowish, you know, like pine, then a series of reddish-brown washes & finally a black wash to the decks. This is basically my method, but I seem do it a little different every ship! As you can tell, I don't have an exact recipe for anything I paint!
Hope this helps…
Peter

Old Contemptibles21 Sep 2013 4:19 p.m. PST

Thanks Peter!

Ceterman21 Sep 2013 5:58 p.m. PST

Your welcome Rally. I forgot to say, on the Confederate ones (that are browinsh, casemate part mostly) I do the same thing except instead of grays, I use a rust brown to start with. Use some black wash and dark brown washes. Highlight with light grays & white.
Again, hope this helps.
Peter

Sir Marcus25 Sep 2013 2:09 p.m. PST

Ceterman,
I, too, was in your games at Historicon. Lots of fun! Thanks for putting out such beautiful models and a challenging scenario – not to mention putting up with us beer guzzling Canucks! Your 'Angel of Death' persona was a treat to watch!
Happy gaming to y'all!
Mark

Ceterman25 Sep 2013 4:32 p.m. PST

Sir Marcus,
So glad y'all had fun. We sure did!
Thanks,
Peter
