I (finally) noticed the Heroclix game when I was at Origins last week. Is there a site that show how to get started in the game? I am also interested in the Star Trek Heroclix. Opinions as well as information is appreciated!

Heroclix.com is the site to start with. More info than you could possibly use :)

check hcrealms.com

Also, before you buy anything check their Sell forums. Lots of guys selling off complete sets and singles far cheaper than cracking open boxes or buying from stores. I've gotten all my clix off other players there. I rarely buy boxes anymore.

Figures from 'drop box' sets will be more expensive per figure due to the small nature of the set. But figures from large 'buy it buy the brick' sets will be cheaper. I usually buy those sets for $35 USD shipped--often 40+ C/U/R figures plus maybe the brick figure and a map tossed in depending on who is selling. Ultra-rares will cost more of cost, but always seem to drop in price as new sets come out.

Take your time. Deals always come up.

Star Trek:
Not very popular among the clix players, so harder to get singles on hcrealms. Miniature Market sells the ships as singles cheaper than anyone, including my local store Cool Stuff. Common ships are cheap, rares are a bit more expensive to crazy-expensive. The problem with the game is that many guys complained that the ships had broken parts due to shipping. Problem is that you can't tell by looking at the blind boxes.

miniaturemarket.com

The ST: Attack Wing is coming very soon, re-using the clix ships but you will see them in open blisters. No blind buys. Downside is that the ships they are releasing sell online by MM and gamers as clix singles for only $1 USD or $2 USD, but now they will be $10 USD each. Upside is that the Enterprise will be $10 USD instead of $25 USD on the secondary market. Granted, the AW ships will have a new base and some game cards. But still, WK is using their crap stat ships in the release of the game. link

I suggest you find a local venue and try and find someone who will demo/teach the game for you before you invest too heavily into it. You should probably watch a tournament or two to see how the game is played at the competitve level as well.

The game has some current issues with the balance of several new mechanics added to the game over the past year. I have watched a couple venues give up on the game due to its current state driving many players away from organized play.

At its core Heroclix is a great game, it just needs to have its rules tightened up and its new mechanics playtested a little longer.

Star Trek Clicks was not a success. So it looks like they have licensed the Star Wars X-wing game mechanics to try and use their molds.

I played the Attack Wing Game at Origins, it was fun and I think it may appeal to Star Trek fans.

Didn't even bother trying Star Trek Clix because the rules were so putrid.

Thanks for the great advice. I am attending Gen Con and will try to get in a demo game.

I'd also take a look at heroclixworld.com
Not as dense as the HC realms site, but they have some nice scenarios and printable play aids.

As stated, Wizkids seems to feel the need to introduce new mechanics every so often – good in that it can help the characters feel more true to the comics; bad in that it gets away from the original concept of a game where everything you need to play is on the figure base.

But the real attraction is the miniatures – every major and many minor characters from both the DC and Marvel universes! You can always use them statted up for other games. . .
