I am planning a trip to Houston at the end of July. I was wondering if there were any shops in the area that I should check out?

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER18 Jun 2013 9:23 p.m. PST

There's Third Planet and Nan's Toys and Games. I don't know how much they have in historical these days. Little Wars is closed, and they were the last place to get Historicals.

Not much left in Houston, I'm afraid. Nan's had some FOW and board games last time I was there, and I haven't been to Third Planet in 10+ years. If you are in town on 7/22, drop by the Stag's Head Pub, as there is a game group that meets there. That month is a game of Bag the Hun.

Bad news! I'd planned to visit Little Wars when I went through Houston in August. I didn't buy vast amounts of things there, but I did get the first of this new army or the first two packages for that new army there, so I have fond memories of the store.

Little Wars closed up last year, finally IIRC…I think…
yes…here's the post: TMP link

Good luck with Nans…last two times I was there, it reminded me of "Why I don't patronize the store anymore"…Customer service is non-existant.

Third Planet?….I'll keep my opinions on this store to myself…although they aren't good…

There was a new shop called Asgard on Kirby the last time I was in Houston. I heard they were planning to relocate but don't know where. They had FoW and Wings aircraft. Perhaps in their new incarnation they have expanded into other historical milieus.

Nan's had a couple of boxes of Foundry remnants the last time I was in there. The service, as noted, was find it yourself unless seeking comic books or fantasy. The remnants had some Ancients, Naps, and WW II.

Nans has four boxes of Foundry remnants at full price.
They have a shelf full of Historical rules. Wings of war and the WWII version (rules and minis). Some sci-fi stuff and fantasy. Don't expect much more than a Hi when you go in though.

Asgard in on S. Shepherd (block or so N of 59). They have mostly FOW/Fantasy.

There's a store in Pasadena and one in Pearland that carry FOW, but little else.

BrianW19 Jun 2013 3:05 p.m. PST

Shag,
I forgot about Asgard! Last time I was in there though, they had wound down the WWII/FOW stuff considerably in order to go more Dystopian Legions. It's been a couple of years though, so I don't know if that has changed.

jdp,
If the store in Pasadena you are thinking of is Skirmish Games, I was told that they are going out of business. They offloaded most of their historical stuff and focused on the Magic card market, so hadn't been there in a while either. Montag's (the store in Pearland) has cut way back on their FOW also.

Murphy,
Interestingly enough, our experiences at those two stores sound remarkably similar. Good thing there isn't a rule against agreeing with YOU on TMP :D

Thanks! I will take a look. I am there visiting friends with my wife, so I do not know about my "gaming" ability, but who knows.
