Excellent work. Obviously you need these little distractions from your major walking mansion project. |

I have really enjoyed watching the terrain project come along. It looks very good now. I think it will blow folks away when you have it all complete. Maybe I glossed over the rivet part, but how are you making them? Super glue drops, or clay, or maybe cutting pin heads? No matter what it is Time consuming, but your end results are looking fantastic. Matthew |

Hi 45thdiv All my rivets are cut from plastic rod with a knife and glued onto the model, applied with a pointy stick, one at a time. It's actually faster than you may think, although having done thousands (HMSW Gargantua, pictured, has 3,630) I'm getting quite good at it. Thanks for liking! HMSW Gargantua:

It is really amazing all of the rivets that things need in those era. You make it look easy. Silly question, but if you are cutting from plastic rod, how do you get the same size and how do you keep from sending the cut end flying off to the other side of the room? I make my rivets from clay, rolling out a thin snake and then cutting them out. They are not perfect, but then I have not tried more than 12 to 15 at a go. I have head of the superglue drop method with the thick gel type, but have not ride that yet. Again, fantastic work. Matthew |

Actually, I don't get all the rivets exactly the same size – although I have a fairly good eye. This is fine by me, as the overall effect is slightly imperfect and eccentric. Sometimes they go ping. Glue blobs is a popular method – and I can see the merit of it, being fast. But one would have to be very careful when handling pieces before the glue has dried – and I work in a chaotic and frenzied manner on my good days
Thanks again. |
