Played a game featuring a British infantry company with armoured support assaulting a ridge line somewhere in NW Europe, 1944. The rules gave a fun game. You may read all about it here: First part: link Second part: link Thanks for stopping by! |

Just one question if you do not paint the figures why paint the tanks/crew? |

T. Trotter, Two reasons. 1. They came that way! 2. I had relatives and friends now gone that served both the Allied and Axis cause. Invariably they would rather not had to have done so but would do so again if called upon. Oddly enough they all attained the rank equivalent of sergeant in the infantry/mountain infantry as well but that is neither here nor there. As an adult this puts WWII well out of my comfort zone but I do love the technology and tactical problems so keeping the infantry as very obvious toy soldiers helps. Started out as a modeler as a kid in the 60's and back then all of my troops and vehicles were painted (admittedly crudely by my current abilities). Not sure what I am going to do with model kits used to fill out the forces. I suspect that tires, treads, and machine guns will be black and the rest as untouched as I can manage depending on the colour of the plaatic. |

Miniaturerealm. I remember trying to convince my mother I needed a green carpet in my bedroom. No joy. However looking back on the somewhat lurid colour schemes in vogue in the 60's it is hard to imagine why not! |

That definitely brings back some memories! Back in the day we used to organise infantry not by platoons or companies but by 'boxes'. As in Allies get 1 box of Airfix British paras, a box of Airfix US marines and a box of Matchbox Brits, Axis get a box of Airfix German infantry, one of German Paras and one of Matchbox Arfika Korps. |

Very authentic – when I was playing Operation Warboard back in the 1980s for some reason the tanks always got painted, and the infantry not always (I know, it's a crime, but there you are). |

One of the classic wargame books and an immensely enjoyable read. Not even a period I usually game in, but an inspiring volume. |

It's very well written, because the author "day job" was as a writer of thrillers. |

I agree with all of the above. WWII on land is not something I normally play. The book's presentation is such and the mechanics such fun, that resistance was futile. |
