Nope, the Führer just didn't have a sense of humor….

Though the book might have some insights into the private personality of the Fuhrer I seriously do not think he would have any real access to top level discussion on any topic. To think Hitler had no knowledge of the Final Solution just does not hold any water in light of what history has to tell us.

You do not have to have Hitler chairing meetings and issuing directives to know what he really wanted.
he appointed these people who knew his agenda.

Kinda familiar, that.

My, how times have changed. Only a couple of years ago, there would be seven different versions of the "Downfall" clip posted here already.

I hate Hitler Apologist Nazis more than I hate Illinois Nazis!

Sounds like a line from "Hogan's Heroes", somehow …

Abraham Lincoln, I think, would have been amused by the fly joke, and either would have come back with a reason he had correctly assigned the task in the first place or a reason to assign the task to a third organization altogether. Either reason would have been logical, if silly. Several English kings would have knighted whichever adjutant successfully killed the fly.

So, agree, not much of a sense of humor, certainly not by July 1944, when the Thousand Year Reich was obviously on the skids, and Adolf was under a great deal of stress.

I'm surprised he was allowed to die of natural causes. Maybe Der Fuhrer saved his life by exiling him to the eastern front since the post-war Nazi hunters didn't 'get' him. Of course, he had to survive the Ostfront first.

If there are any comments proving Hitler knew of the Holocaust, I'm willing to bet the nazi apologists and revisionists will start shouting this guy only said it because he was sore at being sent East.

"Abraham Lincoln, I think, would have been amused by the fly joke,…"

Quite true, a sense of humor is a characteristic of a great man.

There were some interviews, or memoirs, in which some senior infantry officers expressed how demoralizing it was that Hitler and other senior Nazis constantly threated screw-ups with being sent to the Eastern Front. Those who were there, and fighting as their duty, found it distasteful to hear that it was considered punishment by the General Staff.
