All the illustrations have located thus far show this unit in shako in Spain. Is there any evidence that the officers or elites wore colpacks in Spain?

No evidence they didn't.

In Digby Smith's book – Napoleon's Division in Spain, there is a coloured illustration of a trooper from the elite company 3rd Dutch Hussar wearing a fur colpack.

I have a Dutch book on the uniforms of the Kingdom of Holland, which describes the uniform in detail, but makes no mention of a colpack for the elite company. It does mention that with regard to the 2nd hussars. But circumstantial, but on the whole I doubt they had colpacks.

Raglan,

The title is "De uniformen van het Nederlandse leger ten tijde van de Bataafse Republiek en het Koninkrijk Holland 1795 – 1810'' by F.G. de Wilde. Published by the Bataafse Leeuw in 1999.

Thanks Raglan, I have Digby Smith's Napoleon's German Division in Spain Part I and must have looked right past the illustration – greatly appreciated.

Thanks Ottenfeld, the F.G. de Wild book sounds like one I need to add to my collection.

All the best,
Jarhead
