Specifically, looking for figures to use as "objective markers" for the Northern Horse Barbarians who fogut the Han Dynasty (ca. 200BC to 200AD) Xiongnu (Huns?), the Xianbei(?), and/or the Wusun peoples?

I was thinking, maybe the Curteys MO12, Mongol Camp Followers were "generic" enough "Nomads?" money

Han peasant clothing is copied from the nomads, pants, tunic for both sexes

So any 28mm Han-era (or maybe slightly later; e.g. Tang or Sung-era) peasant figures would do?? money

So… That's helpful. I've picked up the single pack of Curteys, slightly later Sung-era peasant figures. Some carry farm implements so not exactly right to be the camp followers of a Nomad Chieftain… But most should do, and I could try to drill out/off the farm implements and contrive something else for the dudes to be doing… Hmm, what's "dude" in Chinese! wink

So, if Han and later era pheasants would do as camp followers for a Nomad, then presumably actual nomad civilians could ALSO work reasonably well as Han-era and later villagers????? But… Am not having a LOT of luck locating any 28mm Han-era or later nomad civvies, except for that single pack of Curteys, MO12, Mongol Camp Followers.

Any help???? What other manufacturers produce Ancient Chinese/Hun/Mongol-era pheasants and or camp civilian figures that would do?? money

Despite any similarities in clothing, I'd suspect that head coverings, hairstyles, and footwear would have differed…

Han and later era pheasants…
Spell-checker is NOT my friend…

Been reading some sections of Ancient China and its Enemies: The Rise of Nomadic Power in East Asian History by Nicola Di Cosmo. Am pretty sure I read in there about efforts at various times by the Han (and after) to repopulate deserted farm lands in the northern frontier regions by settling "tame" nomads. There may also be a reference or two in the Osprey volume on the Great Wall, although there I think the author talks more about "convicts" being sent north as settlers (and even sent to man guard posts and sections of the wall!!).

Anyway, was thinking that maybe recently settled "tame" barbarians would not immediately or readily abandon their own cultural affectations like head coverings, hairstyles, and footwear JUST in exchange for new pastures for their herds and the shot at dabbling in farming, "safe" on the Empire's side of the Han-era Great Wall(s)?? huh?

So I could get away with it maybe? wink
