Being an avowed airfix enthusiast and slightly old-school, I'm painting up 1/32 ww2 infantry.

Now, some of the die-cast and "collectors" models available in 1/32 are stunning, but for the harder to find stuff, would Tamiya / Dragon 1/35 vehicles look acceptable, or noticeably too small?

Has anyone else had any experience of this? I'm not going to mix 1/32 and 1/35 infantry, I just wondered if the vehicles would work with my Airfix. I don't want to spend £20.00 GBP, a month in building, only for it to look silly… :)

I think they are close enough.

The difference, assuming both companies are making their models to true and correct scale, is that your infantry will look 109% as large as they are supposed to. So a guy who is "supposed to be" 180cm will be 197cm instead.

Of course, this applies to everything (weapons, tools, etc.), not just the size of the man. What you could write off as just natural variation in human size is a bit harder to justify if their rifles are also larger than normal.

That said, if it looks right, it is right, for me anyway. And the difference isn't that huge.

I think most of us mix 1/32 and 1/35 stuff.

Yep, I'm with 79th. Do it all the time.

Thanks,

Should be fine. Just say the troops are from the big and tall department.

I add some putty to the bases of my 1/35 infantry. That makes them pretty much the same height as the 1/32 figs. Works fine.

Thanks,

John

The toy sellers in the states (CTS, TSSD, Jamie Delson, etc.) pretty much follow the precedent set by the MARX toy company in the 1950's: figures about 1/32; vehicles closer to 1/43-1/48-1/50

Monogram/revell has re-released the Shermans and a couple of German vehicles that were out in the late 70's-80's. I saw some when home on leave in April at Colpar Hobbies in Aurora, Co. They were 1/32nd.

I loved that Monogram range. I was a Monogram fan in general. Some really nice kits!

Thanks,

John
