You might want to dispense with morions, breastplates and two-handed swords.

I take it these are 1688 Jacobites from the gear?

listlurker05 Jun 2013 6:43 a.m. PST

Yes, 1688

"You might want to dispense with morions, breastplates and two-handed swords."

Thinking behind this was there will be 20-30 varieties of highlander and a couple with heirlooms from service with Montrose would add character

I like those a lot. How will they scale up against say, Essex or Khurasan ECW types?

oh dear, look at the chap lower left. He'll soon realise that all that equipment won't help him on his journey to Mount Doom….

The morions and breastplates are historical as they are both mentioned in accounts of Killiecrankie albeit in a very small minority of upper class highlanders. The fathers of these men had been out with Montrose only forty years earlier and items like these would be status symbols in clan society. Not sure of the problem mentioned with the hand and a half sword or two handed as referred to in one post as this is the actual Claymore and not the basket hilted brodsword that most people think is a claymore. This was certainly prevalent in clan weaponry in 1689 and well before.
Most highland ranges are bland and unrealistic and Lurkio is to be congratulated on a range which has great variety and some real historical colour. It has also avoided the trap that Testudo fell into of having wild poses.
The figures are not finished yet and the addition of the more belted plaids will add even more historical accuracy.

I think I know that guy in the lower left, does he now live in Ayrshire?
