I friend gave me this for watching his dogs, he said it was a Hitler youth pin, anyone care to confirm or deny this?
It is about the size of a nickle, with 1938 date on the front.

Thanks,

I believe what you have is called a "tinnie" – a badge which commemorated some local event – in this case its a Hitler Youth sporting event in 1938

Thanks johnnytodd.

@Grossman: The answer is yes and no. The HY insignia was the diamond and swastika design in the middle of the badge. The scroll and national eagle are embellishments.

It is definitely a HJ "pin". Not a medal or the official membership sign.

I think it is the HJ participation pin for their annual meeting in 36.

It is worth between 50-100 euro.

Being a 30 year collector and dealer in this type of stuff it is indeed a commemorative "tinnie" and would have been for sale or given out for participation in the "HJ" event. This was very much like our boy scouts but with a militaristic German twist. These are very common and since not directly connected to the Military awards or Official "HJ" medals it is not real valuable, $50 USD US or so.
