Now that I have a few planes painted up…
Who makes good 1/300 decals for the US, British and German planes?

I need some with the national markings, lettering and any other symbols (squares, triangles, shark teeth) for both fighters and bombers.

I tried to do this by hand and butchered it… frown

Thanks!

There's also Scale Specialties:

ss-sms.com/index.html

VERY detailed decals for specific units, including nose art where applicable. They've got 2 new sets coming out in a month or so, one for Stukas and one for Messerschmitt 110s.

The list of all of their decals is here:

I use decals from all of the above mentioned. Each range has its strengths so I buy the best each has to offer.

Very cool to read of the Ju87 and Me110 sheets.

I would highly recommend Dom or Dave at I-94. Both are excellent to deal with.

I second Sundance….I-94 and Dom have produced some surpurb products….
The folks at SMS have specfic units..they are pretty awsome as well.
I have also used Fighting Piarannha for some off the wall stuff

Timmo uk: The really cool thing is that they've both got markings to cover the BoB, MTO, and Eastern Front. The Stuka sheet also has markings for Italian Stukas (2 different units)!

(Yes, I've already started painting some planes in anticipation!) grin

Hey Timmo:

I've got a "pre-release" of each sheet and they're pretty darn cool. I've finished a couple of Stukas for 2/Stg.1 and will finish more aircraft as soon as the current heat wave abates a bit.

To all interested parties !!

Decals for the Ju 87 and Me 110 ARE here. Samples and descriptions will be found on our web site. The "Official" premier will take place at Historicon under the direction of Mr. Dave Winfree of I-94.

Best wishes,
for Scale Specialties

Picking this thread back up again, are there any sources for bomber nose art for Pacific Theater operations? Such as, for example, the Air Apaches? (I'm primarily interested in B-25 and B-17 units) Scale Specialties seems to only have a set of bomber ID decals and nose art for the 44th bombardment group, which operated in the European Theater. They indicated they would be adding more, but I can't find on their website that they have.

Norm at Scale Specialties sadly passed away last September; his wife is keeping the business going, and there are a few new releases due this year, but based on stuff Norm had in the pipeline already; I don't think they're in a position to tackle entirely new projects. There are more details of what's in the pipeline if you scroll down on their homepage:

As for other firms, free time (less than non-existent) and the fact that another decal maker bought my favourite model range in the scale (the lovely 1/285 from Raiden, now owned by I-94), making it a bit awkward for me to do more intricate "scaled to fit such-and-such a model" designs, mean it's not a gap I'm likely to step into.

I-94 have done unit-specific stuff, but only very occasionally (eg. their lovely Hungarian sheets) so are a slim possibility, but unless a Check Your 6 scenario book covering the subject appears (probably the only thing likely to spur enough interest in the subject to make it look a viable proposition for them) I fear you're out of luck.

Dom, do you sell Scale Specialties sheets in the UK or know anyone that does?

I'm after some Battle of Britain sets and would like to source in the Uk if poss.

Good news that SMS may be doing a Battle of Britain Me-109 set :)

No, I used to carry them, but gave up when the exchange rate went to hell – there's an Ebay seller that sometimes has them though. To be honest my GE-11 sheet plus basic crosses should be all you need for 109s anyway, but the Scale Specialties bomber sets are unbeatable – lovely work.
