Over the last few days I posted a tribute link to a deceased gaming buddy of mine who was a pretty good painter and I posted up shots of his surviving miniatures. He was done with ACW around the mid-nineties making these almost 20 years old. Sample:
While digging all those out, I came across my own efforts to try and rebuild up what he left behind. The film Glory inspired everybody I knew and I went so far as to create a whole brigade of USCT which are featured here: link Here's a sample:
These were done around 2000? Near the same time period I did the Iron Brigade and some cavalry that I'll have up soon. Questions and comments are welcome and encouraged! |

Nice. Are those bases covered in static grass? |

Those are some of the best-painted 15mm ACW figures that I have ever seen. |

Thanks all! Ya – every bit of our ACW stuff is on dry static grass like that. It is a bit unconventional but I like it. It's one of those things where in summer we looked at unimproved land outside (northern California in this case) and that's what we saw so that's how we based. I actually still have a division or two for both sides to do up so I'll probably continue it as before – maybe more patchy instead of evenly carpeted as above. We didn't have tufts then either so I might put those down in the future to to break it up a bit. |

The Essex miniatures posted in the top photo are painted superbly. I am a bit curious as to why the haversacks were painted off white though. Regulations specified that the cotton haversack was to be 'tarred' black, which was considered necessary for waterproofing. |
