I'm having trouble getting the NATO 3 colour camo right. Does anyone have any tips? I'm not sure if the colours aren't right or I haven't got the hang of the pattern yet. What colours do others use? I'm painting 15mm tanks. |

I'd go with a very dark gray, instead of black, for the "black", due to scale effect, and paint fading issues. |

Yeah I use a black undercoat, and then extremely heavily drybrush with Vallejo German Grey. |

What they said. It's also worth having a close look at what colours each nationality actually uses for what is supposedly a 'NATO' camouflage. The German green is brighter than the US equivalent and the French green is brighter still. |

Tamiya does the right shades in acrylics. yes, the "black' is more of a dark charcoal grey, and really weather's differently. Might be by design as it's overall appearance helps to fade the vehicle into the background, better. The colors can be identified by the term "NATO" in the description. |

Mr. Davies. Living in Germany for over 3 years now, I can see why the greens are brighter. They ARE over here. In the USA, the fields and grass is much darker, overall. Surprised me when I saw my first spring and summer here. I had always felt that the model railroad flocking companies here made their shades too bright. In fact, they are spot on the the local terrain here in Sounthern Germany and Bavaria. (Which is very wet! It's been raining here every day since April with only about 2 days of sunshine that i can remember
.where is summer?) |

Personally for US equipment I use Field Green FS34097 for US 3-color. A fairly vibrant grass green, brighter than Tamiya's NATO green. But yes, the colors are supposed to be the same, but there is some national variety. Damon. |

If you think it's wet there, you should try living in Wales
:) And yes, with Spring finally in full swing here, everything is presently a 50/50 mix of Humbrol 80, dry-brushed Humrol 99! ;) |

I've had really good results with the Tamiya acrylics. |

Old Tamiya catalogues had colour schemes for NATO, if you can find one. |

I use Testers/Model Masters paints: medium green spray paint, then apply military brown, then black. Some pics are under ghqmodels.com forum or on Chris's micro armor page on Facebook. Chris |
