Could Waffen SS troops be used to represent the HG Div. in North Africa or Sicily? If so, what camo pattern would they have used?

Regards,
Steve

There is an Osprey Book on that. A little less reliable but more convenient is this:

I'm thinking about doing just this. Mollo and the Osprey HG title show troops in plane tree camo smocks with the autumn pattern out. Mollo's figure wears Luftwaffe tropical trousers with the large map pocket on the thigh; the Osprey figure wears ordinary trousers.

Only a few HG troops wore the SS Camo smocks. They did not have them as a general issue as some sources would have you believe. As a whole about 10% of the unit received the SS Camo smocks and those were pretty much only available to the divisional troops. Everyone else is going to have some mixture of the tropical and blue grey Luftwaffe uniforms.

We had an extensive conversation about these uniforms on our local game club forums if you care to read it: link

The Osprey notes the limited issue, and their illustration is of an anti-aircraft gunner. That said, a mix of field jacket, smocks and tropical/blue gray would make a nice looking unit -- toss in some guys who've unofficially acquired FJ helmets as well.

Around a thousand were issued to the HG in Tunisia

One more silly question. Were they issued jack boots, or did they all have the short boots and gaiters?

How much can you trust a reference that can't even spell the Reichsmarschall's name right? Not Göring, not Goering, but Göering. Must be his brother or something.

The German spelling is indeed "Göring" or are you saying that all those books by actual German authors get the name wrong? link
