Our Salamen have proven our most popular fantasy range to date and so we've expanded them with warbeasts which are giant salamanders -- the Hellbenders -- which can mount a huge Howdah made of reeds.

You can either fill this with salaman archers and javelinmen, or, rather more majestically, with the King of the Salamen and his throne.

Sci fi gamers will recognise these as the Meso-Nai savages, and we may indeed have a laser cannon made to mount in the Howdah!

All I'm waiting for on these is the resin Howdah and they'll be released. Stay tuned!

That should make some 15mm scale Warhammer players happy.

Here's a look at the howdah filled with Salamen tribesmen. The masts are meant to have pennants or the like, or they can just be left off.

Quite like the idea of 3-4 of these advancing in the centre of the army, with masses of foot tribesmen forming a second line and the flanks. Would be quite a sight.

One of the best amphibian army bits I've seen for years. Love it. Wish I did 15mm fantasy now :(

Eli:

Here I am!

Yup, I will be buying these.

J Womack 9429 May 2013 9:22 a.m. PST

This is obviously the Lizard King, Jimm Morsss'ahn, leader of the Venusian lizardmen.

God, I love playing with VSF.

khurasanminiatures29 May 2013 6:05 p.m. PST

Here are the tribesnewts themselves (these models are currently available):

I have the tribals. Still haven't settled on painting scheme.

I was originally thinking "colorful and varied poison dart frogs," but now thinking "simple uniform two tone green to get them finished."

great job.

khurasanminiatures30 May 2013 4:51 a.m. PST

Thanks Womack -- I've got some other VSF type aliens I've been sitting on for a while, spiderheaded humanoids with flintlock muskets, that I really need to get to market. I may have a swivel gun made to put in the howdah of this model as well, if VSF is the major use of the models.

Not really sure what people are using them for, but they're using them!

(I make fun of others)30 May 2013 7:04 a.m. PST

I use these salamander chaps as fantasy warriors in massed battle, using FoG ancient rules. VSF is a bit oddball for me personally.

Question on these -- will the creatures fit on bases 40mm wide? No use to me if not, as 15mm models need to go on 40mm wide bases for most mass battle wargames rules these days (DBMM, FoG, HoTT, etc). If they do fit I'll use them in an elephant-like role.

republic of tolworth30 May 2013 7:23 a.m. PST

Looks like it maybe push to fit on 40mm?

Eli Arndt30 May 2013 8:31 a.m. PST

It looks like it'd be a stretch, but most of those rules systems aren't so strict as to not allow for an oddly shaped model. You should be able to fudge it.

(I make fun of others)30 May 2013 8:53 a.m. PST

I don't want to fudge it, that's why I'm asking. I already have armies mounted on 40mm width, including an army of these salamander folk.

khurasanminiatures31 May 2013 1:51 p.m. PST

Yes, they will fit on a 40mm wide base. Technically they will even fit on a 40x40 base -- but their heads and tails would overhang the base then. grin

JRacel02 Jun 2013 6:41 p.m. PST

I will eventually need some of these for my Mighty Armies force.

my mighty armies wolfen laugh at your puny coldbloods

Spudeus08 Jun 2013 7:17 a.m. PST

Just noticed these, excellent! Will definitely be adding some to my reptilian horde. There's even a real-life connection, as I once worked for a zoo that had a hellbender conservation program.

Also, still hoping Khurasan releases the 'Second Age' fantasy line this year!

khurasanminiatures08 Jun 2013 8:00 a.m. PST

First Age actually! I don't have any wraiths in the range for the second age. But yes I should release soon.

In fact it probably makes sense to have some wraiths made as they are the only real difference between the first and second age evil armies. Well, that and horses for the evil mannish forces, as in the first age only the elves had mastered the art of horsemanship. This even includes the mighty Edain, who later became the mighty Numenoreans.

The Hellbenders will be released as soon as I get the howdahs--they're are resin and that's what's holding up the release.

Heinz Good Aryan25 Jul 2013 8:49 a.m. PST
