I am looking to game the Indonesian Confrontation in 28mm and would be grateful for details of any company that makes Jungle terrain that would be suitable.

I will need quite a lot

Don't know of any company that makes "jungle terrain" per se. Probably simpler and cheaper to make your own. That's what I'm doing using old CDs as bases and a variety of plastic aquarium plants.

Nice stuff. I have built my jungles from aquarium plants

I'd agree with the first two posters. It's probably easier and cheaper to make your own. Take a look at the workbench tutorial on making palm trees as well as hitting the local craft stores and pet shops for aquarium plants and plastic ferns, grasses, and other plants that can be used for jungle flora. Its probably a ton cheaper than buying it from hobby shops.

(Nods to above) For basing the foliage, one option I've used is torn up chunks (hand size or smaller) of cork tile (5mm thick or so) with dried tea-leaf texturing.

Look in discount stores rather than pet shops for the actual foliage, it'll usually be a LOT cheaper.

There are also tutorials around for doing bamboo groves from bamboo skewers (irony there)

My modelling skills are nonexistant and I don't have a lot of spare time for the project (it will take me ages just to paint the figures) hence the hope that I might find an off the shelf solution.

There does not seem to be much out there though

Dear Dave

Are you coming to Switzerland in the near future?

I have some that you can have. I made it as a dinosaur jungle when my son was (much) younger.

The vast majority of foliage in any jungle is deciduous trees, so don't be afraid to use model trees that might otherwise be used in Normandy (for example).

Hi Mick

Thanks for the offer but I don't expect to be over any time soon unfortunately

Dave

Using European style trees does not seem right somehow!

Dave
I can personally vouch for the village huts at the J Lundberg link (Architects of War), as I have used one of each available myself.
They are first class, although a first class price too.
For the trees, get to Wonderland in Edinburgh for 3 different types of palms in your scale, then start raking round Dobbies garden centres and other aquarium shops for the denser foliage.
Also, have a chat with Colin and the other guys from SESWC, as they did an excellent Vietnam jungle theme last year, at your own show, remember?

RMD is absolutely right about deciduous tress; 'jungle/forest' areas are full of them. You will want palms as well for coconut and oil plantations. Best bet is fleabay, where you can get a bag of 30 for a tenner including postage from china. there are a couple of different types and sizes available. Try Bonsai supply shops for ceramic 'atap' houses. I've never seen them in the UK (we got ours on holiday in china) but they must be availble somewhere.

some of the worst jungle I ever had the pleasure of travelling in, lots of 6 to 7ft high elephant grass on the river flats, and very very thick in the mountains.

You should buy some teddy bear fur to simulate elephant grass, and plastic aquarium plants and make your own canopy trees.

cheers

borneo having a lot of high canopy trees, you can go to hobby lobby or michaels and buy golden yarrow dried flowers, just repaint the flower green and the tree stem a brown ,then base flock and seal. the plants last about fiteen years with proper handling, and when they do break off just put plastic jungle palm tops on the stems,it works great.I have a sample on my yahoo site link is in the jungle terrain photo album.
