Extra Crispy was having a clearance sale on some Pulp .45 packs, so I picked up the 2 packs of Shaolin Monks. We play a lot of Boxer Rebellion TSATF games in 10 figure units, and these will fit in fine. I'll just add an Old glory conch blower, cymbalists, etc.

The figures are in trousers with bare chest and sash, trousers and tunic, etc. How did Shaolin monks normally dress? Was their clothing in an "official" color?
I an trending towards the usual Boxer "uniform" of off white with red something or other.

These figures actually look more like an unillustrated description of what a Boxer looked like. grin All sorts of martial arts poses, with the odd Kung Fu weapons added in.

+1 if charging, first round.

I saw the Shen Yun Chinese dance show lately. These guys were costumed to represent Shaolins:

Here's a broader selection of images of Shaolins. It looks like that orangey-brown is a favored color:

Of course not every Kung Fu fighter is a proper Shaolin. In the movies, the Bad Guys martial arts disciples often wear garish costumes, in contrast to the Good Guys' properly modest appearance.

I think the orange color is more of a 20th century invention and especially common on the modern stage shows since it is more visible. It is not a color associated with the Buddhist virtue of modesty, although yellow/red robes are usually worn by monks of high standing, while most would wear a more drab looking color like light grey, light brown or a light blue grey.

IIRC the yellow/orange color for Buddhist monks is tradition since the dye could be made with vegetables, and thus visibly demonstrated the Buddhist disdain for killing.

Actually taskforce, from the lighting, those kids appear to be dance-fighting onstage too. Get down! Evabuddy was Kung-fu fighting!

In fact it was a li'l bit frightening!

Mine are in orange, so that must be correct, then.

John the OFM24 May 2013 9:30 a.m. PST

Would that be the same orange as the facings color of the 35th Foot?

But they fought with expert timing…

Yes, John, a nice tawny orange…

I suppose I'll have to bring THOSE figures as well.

I will use this as my guide, but none of the figures are posed this way.
It would make a awesome conversion, though.

I think the Old Glory Shaolins might have one posed that way, John. "Hey, Steve!"

Don't forget to paint the red and blue stripes on those official Shaolin sneakers.
