15mm tactical game using Peter Pig figures and similar vehicles and components ..

picture

This was a trial of my paratroop insertion module, and a debut for my new drop markers

picture

The air drop phases went well, and I felt confident that the soviets would successfully seize the airstrip before the conventional forces arrived in support …

picture

Being a wargame, of course, there is also my players' die rolling, which saw successive assaults beaten off, the platoon commander shot up (mostly hugely against the odds courtesy of a Gebirgsjaeger officer and mortar squad holed up in the airport building …) …

oh … and there was also a flying tank …

Cool drop markers! thumbs up

AFSSGTBINGHAM23 May 2013 4:41 a.m. PST

what are those drop markers made from???

Yesthatphil23 May 2013 5:11 a.m. PST

Hi AFSSGTBINGHAM …

There is a short feature currently top item on my blog's modelling page … Basically the canopy is the upturned bowl froma little 'egg cups' which originally came with chocolates in them (I think Ferrero Rocher, Easter or Christmas gift pack)

picture

I have sawn them off, fixed them on a plastic upright cut from DIY stock, and mounted that on a coin.

I knew I would find a use for the little cups, but wasn't completely sure until I did the first one.

They are, of course, pretty abstract – but they look right as they lay out over the battlefield (at least, the feedback so far has been positive)

Nice looking markers. Kind of whimsical but very nice!

Thanks for the positive comments, all …

Kind of whimsical but very nice!

Praise indeed – thanks, John 'whimsical' is good.

The players enjoyed this scenario (or were sufficiently committed to humouring me that they have booked us another go at it): so there may be more to come of what is essentially a mechanism in play test.

Here is the highly detailed drop sequence we developed for our Crete game using command decision:

The parachute idea is really good.
I´d never heard of a Krylya Tanka. On looking it up I was amazed to find it was real

Of course it is! And I wouldn't have it any other way! It shows as gamers that we don't take our selves too seriously!

EDIT: I am a bit slow but I just realized that bomber has a wine glass flight stand! Great idea! Just make sure it is empty before using it!
