I am trying to complete at least the crew of NOT Aliens crew, for the standard Colonial marines and Gorman I used EM4 miniatures and Ripley and Newt from Hasslefree [nice chaps and give u a free candy too!] But for the Dropship pilots I am stuck
any good recommendations? I guess something with a jumpsuit and flight helmet /glasses is nice? For the xenomorphs I used Bloodletter to convert but have trouble with the tails
Wonders any of you guys here did any ALIENS project? |
JimSelzer | 20 May 2013 7:35 p.m. PST |
actually have you tried the Tyranids they make nice aliensesque in 28mm |
chuck05 | 20 May 2013 7:53 p.m. PST |
I second the Tyranid suggestion. Hormigaunts could be converted with a little effort. You could also search EBAY for the Horrorclix aliens. From what I hear they are expensive though. Ferrro was the dropship pilot, not Frost. Frost was one of the marines with the flamer. Check out Woodbine Design: link Chuck |

Oh it was Ferro! The Aliens horrorclix was too expensive but by far the most authentic ahaha Thanks for the input guys! Now..where are my nids

My old blog has some articles about my Aliens project. The dropship crew is on the Making the Marines page and the making of Aliens is on the Making the Aliens page :-) link |

Whoa! Thanks a lot man, very inspirational : ) |
Pete Melvin | 21 May 2013 2:16 a.m. PST |
Yup, Ferro and the improbably named Spunkmeyer. Poor SOB. |
AndrewGPaul | 21 May 2013 2:27 a.m. PST |
For the aliens, have you considered the Kryomek from Scotia Grendel? The Nexus Marines from the same range also make good Colonial Marines proxies. Other sugfgestions would be Hasslefree Miniatures and Woodbine (sold by Gripping Beast: link ) Alternatively, if you can find them, the old metal Hormagaunts from GW, with the "handed" arms from genestealers should make passable proxies, once painted black. |

miniatureMOJO has some big time modeling skills and inspiration. |
miniatureMOJO | 21 May 2013 7:28 a.m. PST |
Thanks HG Walls, that's kind of you. It's an old project but in case it us of interest there are more images of the painted aliens in these AAR threads over at LAF (where I post as Silent Invader): link link |

Move it, Spunkmeyer, we're rollin'

I've got a few xenomorphs kitbashed from mainly GW stuff. Hormagaunt bodies with the genestealer "rending claw" hands and the Chapterhouse xenomorph tyranid heads. They also paint rather easy. Basecoat black, and then light drybrush a metallic color of choice (adds variety and hives a bit of a look more like the Kenner toyline) and then a glossy coat. For older variants (the rumpled heads) use a non-gloss varnish rather than the glossy. |

link Another suggestion for converting Aliens. |
frankietanch | 21 May 2013 7:08 p.m. PST |
Currently I have 10 bloodletters to convert which I will use greenstuff to elongate the head, file away the scales and using the horns as "pipes" on its back, all these are ideas stolen from this amazing dude who made it but I can seem to find his site anymore
haiz.. The crew of Sulaco, without refering to anything now, are: Ripley [main character] Burke [coporate guy] Gorman [Officer] Apone [sarge] Hicks [Corporate with shotgun] Drake [smartgunner] Vasquez [smartgunner chick] Frost [flamer] Ferro [pilot, thanks for the correction chuck05] Hudson Spunkmeyer Newt
mind blank..anymore..i think there should be 13 if I am not wrong
Tentatively will make these characters first and expand afetr that..just order from Gripping Beast..hope they arrive soon

have you had alook at the Dawn of the Lead blog? he has reviewed lots of marine type minis and has quite few pictures of them up for comparison. might be helpful i can reccommend the griping beat/woodbine marines, the weapons are not quite right but overall (IMO) they capture the look of the movie marines pretty well Nick |

Yes, I have been to the Dawn of Lead site and his site is THE site to go for Aliens / Predator / Colonial Marines Minis reference ahaha It seems now and then the topic on ALIENS mini gaming will pop up, which is nice and inspiring. |

BTW, miniatureMOJO, your aliens from Bloodletters are inspirational! I will build it based on your ideas , thanks a lot! |

Hi guys! I tiny update from the ever going project [provided I dont jump around and go build something that will never finish in the first place..] I got hold of a box of GW Bloodletters and did a bit of conversion with some greenstuff.. The pic wasnt very good, will try to update again when poss, thanks for looking : )

Rob Jedi | 13 Jun 2013 7:21 p.m. PST |
Bloody hell those turned out great. I really should return to converting my bloodletters box wherever they ended up, I still only have the one converted. Glad I could be of inspiration seeing how these turned out. |
frankietanch | 13 Jun 2013 8:56 p.m. PST |
Rob thanks for the idea! Just that I don't have those metals tails you've got, so I used the Tyranid Gargoyles' tails, the green stuff work is not as difficult as imagined. I've made a mistake of adding a layer of green drybrush so they looked like they were smeared with green stuff, so I am going to try a different color next round.. The tail bits can be obtained from an ebay seller called Hoard of Bits, but its a pain in the neck [and the wallet] to get them to ship from US to Singapore now, as shipping costs has doubled

auction This are the guys people are using for the conversions? 10 for 30 is pretty pricey |

If you can find it, the Sedition Wars Kickstarter did a good not-Ripley carrying a not-Newt as a stretch goal |
frankietanch | 12 Oct 2013 9:59 p.m. PST |
Thanks for the input John! Am using Hasslefree's Signee and Billie the hunted figures.. link link looks pretty appropriate to me

Just to be late to the conversation, the Marines I use are slightly converted Future Wars; my original LEG bugs would be dwarfed by most lines now. Nice to see others continuing this; I haven't my board out in at least a year or two, and I still get pestered on occasion. Doug |
Pointy Faced Aardvark | 17 Oct 2013 9:09 a.m. PST |
I went for a simpler solution, I just took off the secondry arms from a Genestealer, swapped the head for a Termagant's and painted them in silvers and grays. They don't look exactly authentic, but it was the 'flavor' that I was after. For the Colonial Marines I used the older GW Guardsmen that I've had for a few years. |
frankietanch | 21 Oct 2013 6:17 a.m. PST |
This makes me wonder..so many of us folks are doing some Aliens / Aliens-inspired projected here and there.. It's a shame the Fox execs [er..assuming they are the ones holding the IP rights] are not doing enough to produce a decent Aliens miniature game after the defunct Aliens Horrorclix
oh well.. Anyway I am also using Hasslefree's Ashley (C) figure: link as Ferro, the dropship pilot, its either I leave the Pulse rifle alone, or I will cut it down into a pistol..hmm.. |
