A question that I was thinking about needs to be brought up to the community as a whole.

What effects do sounds have on the battlefield? Are we using them in our games?

Yep, I sometimes have spotify running with ww2 sounds in the background.

Are you asking if we take sound into account in our games?

Or are you asking do we have ambient sounds going while we play?

I am asking do game and scenario designers use sounds in their games? Be it background or game specific.

There were alternate spotting rules in one tactical set I played with many years ago that used hearing as an alternative to spotting if there was no LOS.

IIRC, there were something like four levels of sound, each of which was louder and drowned out the level under it, and could be heard a further distance.

I think the lowest level was men passing on foot, and the loudest level was tracked vehicles passing by, or artillery barrages, something like that.
